For a long time now Israel and Hamas have raged in conflict. On Monday the United Nations Security Council met to vote on President Trump, of the United States’, plan for peace in Gaza. This is a major win for the council, seeing as though there was a basically unanimous decision and the only countries that would have been against it abstained from voting. In the article by the New York Times, entitled In Major Breakthrough, U.N. Security Adopts U.S. Peace Plan for Gaza, the writer explains, “Security Council resolutions are considered legally binding international law, and although the Council does not have a mechanism for enforcing such resolutions, it can take measures to punish violators with penalties such as sanctions”.
This is great news because there has been very little peace in this area for a long time now. This is then negated by the BBC article that explains that, “Hamas, reacting to the move, rejected the resolution and said it failed to meet Palestinians' rights and demands”. Now in a way it is hard to decide what it is that we should believe here. On one hand the United Nations Security Council unanimously decided on this key issue, but on the other Hamas has rejected the decision and seems to be unwilling to compromise. So which is true and which one should we believe.
