I think this is likely misinformation. According to Forbes, Elon Musk didn't fire the whole team, but only 50% of the company's workforce.

I believe it is true that twitter has laid off thousands of employees in departments across the company, but not the entire data science team. CNN stated, "By Friday morning, Twitter employees from departments including ethical Al, marketing and communication, search, public policy, wellness and other teams had tweeted about having been let go."

I don't think there is much reliable information about this claim. Companies don't tend to release confidential information like this to the public. Some claim that Twitter laid off the entire staff in Africa, and some say they only laid off half of its staff

It is true that Twitter did lay off thousands of employees of the company, but not the entirety of the Twitter team. Important employees such as members of the curation team who help elevate reliable information on the app were laid off. Interviews show that Elon Musk states that these layoffs were necessary for the company.
