This is a conspiracy theory that has been perpetuated for years. As far fetched as it may seem, there are many proponents of this conspiracy and people have made some fairly decent points in support. Some have proposed that the US government faked the moon landing to win the space race against Russia with the good of the country in mind. People also claim the footage of Buzz Aldrin waving the American flag wouldnt actually be possible on the moon, which acts as a vacuum. 6% of the entire American population believes this conspiracy. That makes up about 18 million people.

The conspiracy theory that the government faked the moon landing can be debunked by many things, including pure science. There are many articles that discuss all of the ways people have tried to claim the moon landing was fake and prove that it was, in fact, real. For example, an article from the Royal Museums Greenwich discusses the claim that the flag appeared to be waving in the wind, but how would that be possible if there is no wind on the moon, since there is no atmosphere? The article explains that there is a horizontal pole inside the flag in order to extend the material outwards.

The idea that the moon landing was fake is incorrect. On July 20, 1969, astronauts Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin became the first people to walk in the moon. They collected lunar rocks and safely returned to Earth, and several more missions followed, proving that humans really reached and explored the moon's surface. The historical and scientific evidence clearly shows that the landing happened and it was not a staged event.

This claim is false. The moon landing was real, and according to Royal Museums Greenwich, it says "Conspiracy theorists argue that the lack of stars in the Apollo 11 mission photographs prove that the event was staged. NASA could not have faked the full wonder of the lunar sky, and so they simply chose not to include any stars at all." This article debunks all claims conspiracy theorists have made about the mood landing, proving the moon landing to have been real.

This claim is false. Ever since this topic has been brought up to society, it's been debunked every single time. Addressing the "US government faked the moon landing to win the space race against Russia" claim- there have been around 842lbs of verified moon rocks brought to earth and thoroughly checked. It's a quick Google search. With the flag, it has been stated that there was a telescopic pole lined into the top of the flag to hold it up while still wrinkled. It appears to be waving because there's something literally holding it up to wave it.
