The claim that Apple is planning to release movies in theaters has many reports across the web which makes it likely to be true; however, Apple has not come out with its own answer at this time. CNBC pointed out that they plan to spend $1 billion on theater releases with cinema stocks such as IMAX and AMC rising because of it. They also say this move by Apple is being done to raise its profile in Hollywood and hopefully gain more Apple TV subscribers. We are waiting for Apple to comment or release a confirmation of this report.

According to Thomas Buckley and Lucas Shaw, Apple plans on spending around $1 billion a year on different movie productions. They claim this is because Apple wants to spread their industry to Hollywood. These plans are private, so there are no titles released yet; however, it has been confirmed that Apple is partnering with different production companies. This is a significant increase from what Apple has spent on production before this.

This is a true claim. According to CNBC, "apple plans to spend $1 billion a year on theatrical film releases." The article further elaborates, stating that the reason behind Apple's decision is to "lure subscribers to its streaming service, Apple TV+." Bloomberg reports the same information, as well as stating that "Apple has agreed to theatrical releases in order to please talent and outmaneuver competitors for projects." This is true. According to Forbes, Apple has previously released some movies in the theaters to be eligible for Oscar nominations. Forbes says "The report stated that a few movies will be released widely in theaters this year, but it will ramp up production in future years so it can focus on more theatrical releases." Forbes says Apple is trying to break into Hollywood by doing theatrical releases. This is also an effort to bring in more people to the streaming service.

This has not been confirmed by Apple to be true as of yet. According to this article from Bloomberg, they are reportedly spending $1 billion to raise its status in Hollywood and obtain more subscribers to its platform. They want the movies to play in theaters for at least one month before coming to Apple TV+. The money is going to create blockbuster films of higher quality as well as getting them in theaters nationwide. Apple declined to comment to Bloomberg and the plans have not been finalized yet.

Apple has found an established platform with their streaming service Apple TV+, which has seen successful shows and films including Emmy Winner Ted Lasso, and Best Picture Oscar Winner CODA. Now, Apple is reportedly planning to invest an additional $1 billion per year to produce films that will release theatrically. Rather than to save cinemas, Apple is using the investment to promote their streaming platform, similar to Amazon's Prime Video. For example, Apple has partnered with Paramount to release Martin Scorsese's "Killers of the Flower Moon" in theaters. Along with that, Apple has many more big budget films in its pipeline that would benefit from a theatrical release to great extent.
