According to the link, cats know their names. The reason why sometimes cats are ignoring people is because they are more independent than dogs, and they don't feel like they have to respond to people all the time.

After reading numerous articles from reputable sources like National Geographic and CNN, it is clear that cats do know their names. Through a series of experiments conducted by the journal Scientific Reports, it was discovered cats react in meaningful ways to their names being called in different homes/cat cafes, and only their names, not similar words. Cats have the ability to recognize vocal patterns and tie words to positive reinforcement. In addition to this study, CNN also states that when your cat ignores you, it's because they are choosing to, not because they don't understand.
