This claim is true. According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, "People with health problems, the very young, senior citizens, and pregnant women (the risk is to the unborn child) are particularly vulnerable to Salmonella enteritidis infections. A chronic illness weakens the immune system, making the person vulnerable to foodborne illnesses."

This claim is true. Raw eggs are dangerous to everyone, especially people with weakened immune systems. As writers for Taste of Home state:

"Salmonella poisoning is often mild but can become serious. Symptoms of salmonella poisoning usually appear between six hours and six days after being exposed and can include diarrhea, vomiting, abdominal cramping and fever.

This is especially true for people who are more at risk of getting seriously ill from salmonella. Young children, older adults, pregnant women and anyone with a compromised immune system should be especially cautious around raw eggs."

Groups that involve young children, the elderly or pregnant women should be careful with raw eggs.

When people grow older their immune system becomes more compromised. The risk of eating raw eggs is salmonella bacteria. With the right precautions this is okay for people to eat. However when it comes to children, pregnant women, and the elderly this is not safe.

According to the article, in order for people with compromised immune systems to eat eggs, "they should always be cooked properly to eliminate any risk of food poisoning".

While raw eggs have many benefits to them, they can also be a danger to all individuals as raw eggs can cause humans to contract salmonella, an illness that can pose a threat to all individuals. Salmonella is a type of food poisoning that can affect some more than others including elderly, young children and those with compromised immune systems.

It is important that individuals are aware of the health risk involved when eating raw eggs regardless of age.
