Katie Hobbs is still the governor of Arizona. She took a day trip to Washington D.C. for business. The state's secretary of state and attorney general were also away on business, meaning the state treasurer was the acting governor for that day. Social media took what happened and ran wild with it.

Nice work on both proving the claim false and adding additional information that explains Hobbs' brief absence and who was in charge while she was gone.

Nice work on this fact-check. I liked that you used 2 sources to back up your claim and how you backed up your statement by saying why the other statement was false.

I found an AP article that debunks this claim. Arizona's governor, Katie Hobbs did not suddenly step down from her position, she left the state for a day so she could attend meetings in Washington. While she was gone, the state treasurer served as acting governor since Arizona's constitution states that the next highest ranking official who is physically in the state must assume the role in the governor's absence.

I appreciate your usage of paraphrasing what the article mentioned about Arizona's governor. It allows for a deeper insight rather than just quoting from the article, and AP news is a credible source. Good job!

Good working with finding a trustworthy source and presenting the information in a way that is easy to read. I also appreciate that you debunk the claim, state what actually happened and why the treasurer served as acting governor all within just 2 sentences.

This is false. From AP News: https://apnews.com/article/arizona-governor-katie-hobbs-politics-elections-fact-check-5cd1eb38a7f1de986fd1669fbb72d277

"The Democrat, who has been the target of misinformation since taking office this year, was out of state for meetings in Washington for a day, so the state treasurer briefly served as acting governor."

"She was away on business for a day, and state law requires that the next highest-ranking statewide office holder assume the role of acting governor in her absence."

This is a good fact check. The use of a source and quotes from the source fully debunks the idea that the governor stepped down.

This is a false claim. Katie Hobbs is still the governor of Arizona. I fact checked this with an article from AP news.

The article states, "Hobbs remains governor of the Grand Canyon State. She was away on business for a day, and state law requires that the next highest-ranking statewide office holder assume the role of acting governor in her absence."

This is false, according to the AP "But there’s no great mystery: Hobbs remains governor of the Grand Canyon State. She was away on business for a day, and state law requires that the next highest-ranking statewide office holder assume the role of acting governor in her absence." Also according to azgovernor.gov Katie Hobbs is still the governor despite rumors of her mysterious resigning from the office.
