Palestine once had 36 hospitals but now has 0 due to the ongoing conflict.

X is a source that can easily have facts that aren't true. While doing some research I found from the World Health Organization that some hospitals are remaining although they are not fully functional. Southern Gaza used to have 12 hospitals, and now has 7 partially functional hospitals left.  WHO is a reliable source when trying to get information about world health while X is not.

Since this was a bold claim I fact checked the World Health Organization to understand the validity of your claim. Hospitals in Gaza still exist, yet they are only partly functional due to the conflicts. There are only 120 healthcare workers in the Al-Sifa hospital who are tending to 300 patients. The World Health Organization stated, "Essential services such as basic laboratory and radiological facilities remain operational, along with emergency care, a surgical unit with three operation theaters, post-operative care, and a dialysis unit." Along with those services, the hospital plans on opening a nine bed ICU in the coming days.

Using X as a reliable source can be tricky since there is a lot of misinformation circulating on social media. To say that there are no hospitals left would be inaccurate. According to the World Health Organization, as of January 24, 2024, there are only seven partially functional hospitals in southern Gaza. And in northern Gaza, seven out of 24 hospitals are open but partially functional.

WHO is a great source! What resource or research did you use to figure out X isn't reliable. Did any other reliable resources have information on this topic?

your fact check was great. You are right this was a very bold claim to make. I like that you after fact check with your reliable source you expanded on the topic providing some information you gained from your source. Your quote was also helpful.

The original tweet claims that there are ZERO hospitals remaining in Gaza. The original tweet's X account has only around 25k followers and does not have credentials to be a news source.

I found a BBC article that cites the World Health Organization's statement that although hospitals are facing a dangerous shortage, "only 13 of 36 hospitals are functional..." https://www.bbc.com/news/world-middle-east-68023080

Official Statement from World Health Organization website:

According to the latest WHO assessments, Gaza has 13 partially functioning hospitals, 2 minimally functioning ones, and 21 that are not functioning at all. Among these is Nasser Medical Complex, which is the most important referral hospital in Southern Gaza, and is partially functioning.

While it is true that hospitals in Gaza are facing dire circumstances, the claim that there are ZERO hospitals is false. The post becomes exaggerated and misleading -

There are over 56000 injured Gazans. There are over 50000 pregnant Gazans. And there are no hospitals left. I have no words.

Claim: Palestine once has 36 hospitals but now has 0 due to the ongoing conflict

According to this article, there are zero operating hospitals in Gaza right now. After doing my own research, I found that ABCnews wrote an article stating that there are functioning hospitals, and that they got their information from World Health Organization (WHO). I then found an article by WHO that said there were 7 northern hospitals functioning, and 7 southern hospitals functioning. I believe that WHO is a reliable source, while X is not. It is important to fact check with reliable sources. After fact checking, I found that the article posted by X is false information.

The main claim in this article that there are no more hospitals in Gaza is misleading. While many hospitals in Gaza are shut down, nine hospitals in the south of Gaza still remain operational according to the world health organization. The news source X is not valid or high quality and the post doesn't link to any supporting article or data. The author of this post is just someone who posts lots of pro Palestine information and probably does not fact check what she is posting. This news is very current as the post was from just a few days ago. Media outlets like the world health organization and abc news are reporting on the issue, however they present different data than the X post. This text is written from a biased point of view.

As stated in a tweet posted on January 19, 2024, "There are no hospitals in Gaza. There are none left. The occupation has bombed every. single. one. They began with 36. Now there are 0. There are over 56000 injured Gazans. There are over 50000 pregnant Gazans. And there are no hospitals left. I have no words."

This claim is extremely exaggerated and dangerous. According to the World Health Organization, "Gaza has 13 partially functioning hospitals, 2 minimally functioning ones, and 21 that are not functioning at all." While there are not any fully functioning hospitals, there still is responsive care available in certain parts of the strip. The user behind the fact-checked tweet was entirely false when they made their claim.
