I think this claim is simply an opinion. Dune 2 seems to be doing well in theatres and Vulture posted an article talking about everything theatres are doing to boost morale for the movie. You might think this is the "greatest sci-fi movie of all time" but others might disagree.

I like that you acknowledged that this claim is an opinion. It's hard to fact check an opinion since it cannot be true or false. Someone could think Dune 2 is the best sci-fi movie ever and the next person could think it's the worst movie ever made.

I agree, I think the claim made for the initial post was more based on opinion rather than what the article actually said. The article said that is has become one of the highest rated sci-fi movies, but it never made the claim that Dune should be considered the best sci-fi movies of all time. You did a good job calling out that distinction.

Good fact check. I like the way you addressed how well it's doing in the box office and its reviews. At the end of the day saying something is the "greatest" is completely subjective no matter how many great reviews Dune 2 gets that will always be an opinion.

I agree with the answer. This claim is an opinion and not a fact. They did a good job stating what the article actually said: that Dune 2 was a high-rated movie and not the best movie of all time.

I like your fact check. At the end of the day it is subjective. I do think this claim is correct in that it should be considered one of the best but isn't the best. Overall, great fact check.

Based on the sources provided and the overall way the claim is phrased, this is considered an opinion and subjective. Yes, the movie was released with ratings higher than other highly rated films so the claim is technically true in that it can be considered to be one of the best but to be named "the best" is completely opinion-based.

RJ- I think that it is significant that you gave context about consumer reaction so we understand the rationale behind this claim. I think it is important how you described the claim as subjective, as it may true or false. Lastly, categorizing the claim as can't be true or false to clearly summarize your analysis.

This is more or less an opinion, and is entirely subjective. IMDd does rank the movie with an 8.9/10 on their site and just as the article claims, it does beat out the like of Avengers: Endgame with a rating of 8.4/10. On a rating scale it may be true, but the claim sounds to be a case by case basis.

I agree; I believe the original post's allegation was based more on opinion than on what the article mentioned. The article stated that Dune has grown to be one of the highest-grossing science fiction films, but it never asserted that it is the greatest sci-fi film ever created. You did an excellent job of pointing out the difference.
