Social media users are citing a study from Sweden that was published in February to push the unproven theory that mRNA COVID-19 vaccines permanently alter recipients’ DNA.

First of all, the article's title is "Swedish study on COVID vaccines and DNA misinterpreted"
--emphasis on the misinterpreted. The article opens up with a sentence claiming that a Swedish study shows that Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine changes recipients’ DNA. However, the sentence below says "THE FACTS: Social media users are citing a study from Sweden that was published in February to push the unproven theory that mRNA COVID-19 vaccines permanently alter recipients’ DNA."  The poor layout of this article may cause confusion and an initial misinterpretation if readers don't follow through and read the rest. In addition, with further research, I have found that several other articles claim that the vaccine does not permanently alter recipients' DNA.

this is false,

"AP’S ASSESSMENT: False. The study tested whether the vaccine’s mRNA could be converted to DNA, and found that this was the case in certain lab-altered liver cell lines under experimental conditions. It did not assess whether the vaccine alters the human genome, or what the effects of that would be, according to experts and the study authors. Experts say additional research is needed because the findings in the lab setting cannot be used to make inferences about what might happen in a human body.

The article you have attached is titled, "Swedish Study on COVID Vaccines and DNA Misinterpreted." This article has already fact-checked this claim and has proven it false.

According the Center of Disease Control and prevention, claims that the Covid-19 vaccine does not alter DNA and the vaccine is safe using ingredients found in food. "Both messenger RNA (mRNA) and protein subunit COVID-19 vaccines work by delivering instructions (genetic material) to your cells to start building protection against the virus that causes COVID-19."

There is no evidence that supports this claim. The COVID-19 vaccine can not affect human DNA. An arrival from the Washington university in St. Louis says “ Messenger RNA (mRNA) in COVID-19 vaccines teaches cells to make a spike protein from the virus, helping the body fight the actual virus. Once the mRNA gives instructions to the cells, the body breaks it down so it cannot harm the body.” Meaning this statement is false. The vaccine can not interfere with human DNA.

Claim: Social media users are citing a study from Sweden that was published in February to push the unproven theory that mRNA COVID-19 vaccines permanently alter recipients’ DNA.

Verdict: False

This claim came about on social media around the release of a report from MIT regarding the affects of certain COVID-19 vaccines on DNA. The common misinterpretation that seemed to go around was that the human genome was being permanently altered from the mRNA based vaccines. An article from Lund University linked here features interviews from two researchers from the study to elaborate on how it should be interpreted. Because the vaccines are mRNA based, the vaccine triggers responses in the immune system. The researchers say in the article "This study does not investigate whether the (COVID-19) vaccine alters our genome... There is no reason for anyone to change their decision to take the vaccine based on this study." There is super quick read from covidvaccinefacts.org linked here which covers this concept in a way that is more easily understandable for general audiences by paraphrasing a lot of technical language.

Covid vaccines can’t alter someon’es dna. Vaccines don’t flow through that part of the body to affect it in that way.

Claim: This article "CLAIM: A Swedish study shows that Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine changes recipients’ DNA is claiming that mRNA COVID-19 vaccines alter DNA in the human body.

Is it true? No!

Here is an AP article debunking the article and giving the facts. https://apnews.com/article/fact-check-covid-vaccine-sweden-study-986569377766

This claim has been proven false by many sources. AP News has debunked it as well as USA Today. The study done did not accurately represent or prove that the vaccine altered DNA.

The headline to this article is very misleading because the title of the actual article is: "Swedish study on COVID vaccines and DNA misinterpreted. The article does not talk about COVID-19 altering DNA in fact it states the exact opposite and addresses misinformation like, COVID-19 alters DNA. https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/vaccines/facts.html the article provided is written by the CDC and addresses the myth that vaccines leads to DNA altercation. I would rate this article a 7/10

There is no evidence to support the claim that the Covid-19 vaccine alters people's DNA. According to Orange County, North Carolina's website, COVID-19 does not alter DNA. "The vaccine never enters the nucleus of the cell where the DNA is located." https://www.orangecountync.gov/Faq.aspx?QID=751. This statement is thus confirmed as false since the vaccine cannot affect DNA.
