To wash or to not wash your face—that is the question. Does it just depend on the skin type and genetics or could it benefit everyone not to wash your face in the morning?

Your question brings up an interesting debate! The Vogue article suggests that skipping a morning cleanse can help maintain the skin’s natural oils and microbiome, but this advice isn’t one size fits all. Dermatologists generally agree that skin type plays a big role—those with oily or acne-prone skin might still need a morning wash to remove overnight buildup, while drier skin types could benefit from just rinsing with water. Did you find any scientific studies supporting this claim, or is it mostly anecdotal advice from skincare experts? It would be great to see more dermatological perspectives to get a clearer picture!

while this could be true for some it's not for all and depends a lot on skin type.

I like how you didn't immediately agree with the article or have a bias one way or another. this is an interesting question to have, I think it changes from person to person. it could change with how sensitive their skin is or what type of skin it is

Great question! Whether or not to wash your face in the morning really does depend on your skin type, lifestyle, and personal preference. If you have oily or acne-prone skin, a gentle cleanse in the morning can help remove excess oil and bacteria that accumulated overnight. But if you have dry or sensitive skin, just rinsing with water or using a hydrating toner might be enough to avoid stripping your skin’s natural oils. Some dermatologists even suggest that if your skin feels balanced and not greasy, you could skip the morning wash and just focus on moisturizing and SPF. It’s all about finding what works best for your skin!

I think reading the vogue article made you consider which is best whether to wash your face in the morning or not. I think in order to figure this out for you personally it is best to read more reliable sources that have facts. There is information out there that mentions skin problems like acne prone skin are related to genetics, diet, stress levels, hormones, skin types and more. Or look further into their claims and do your research on the French pharmacist mentioned.

The claim that not washing your face in the morning based on Natacha Bonjout's article A French Pharmacist's 9 Secrets to Your Best Skin Ever published by Vogue is true and credible however the claim doesn't apply to everyone.

According to the American Academy of Dermatology, it is best to wash your face "once in the morning and once at night, as well as after sweating heavily" so generally it is recommended to wash your face in the morning.

Whether to wash your face in the morning also depends on each individual's skin type. Dr Jean Charles, MD states "Your skin type plays a role in how often you should be washing your face. If you have more dry or sensitive skin, you can skip washing your face in the morning and splash your skin with water before applying your morning skincare routine,” in an article published by the U.S. Dermatology Partners. In summary, the benefits of not washing your face in the morning depend on your skin type and will differ for everyone.

Deciding whether it’s best to wash or not to wash your face in the morning has a subjective response. It all depends on the individual and their skin type. Although it might be beneficial for some to wash their face in the morning it is not the same case for everyone. According to an article from “Health” “For some people—particularly those with acne-prone or oily skin—face washing twice a day might be beneficial…Getting rid of this dirt, skin oil, and other debris in the morning reduces the likelihood of clogged pores and breakouts, said Stacey Tull, MD, MPH, board-certified dermatological surgeon and owner of St. Charles County Dermatologic Surgery.” Supporting the idea that it is not ideal for everyone they also mentioned “ Though cleansing your face in the morning can improve some people’s skin health, it’s not necessary for everyone. People with sensitive skin or inflammatory skin conditions such as eczema, rosacea, and psoriasis may find cleansing twice a day too drying, said Stull.” These claims support the idea that it all depends on the individual and there is no size fits all.

I think that this is false because there is no yes or no for everyone. It depends on genetics and someone's skin type, therefore you can not just say that it is a good or bad thing to wash your face in the morning." For some people—particularly those with acne-prone or oily skin—face washing twice a day might be beneficial.." , "Morning face washing “can help remove excess sebum and dead skin cells, which can clog the pores,” Stull explained. It’s also a good way to get rid of residue from skincare products". As mentioned in my source one can not concur if there is a good or bad it depends on who your are, therefore this is a false claim.
