I find it very hard to believe since the sport isn't particularly large compared to others and the athletes seem to have other jobs from what I can gather.

Likely misinformation.

I couldn't find any sources to back up this claim.

this seems to be false. "The truth is that here are almost zero ultimate frisbee players who make a living only from playing ultimate frisbee. A typical ultimate frisbee salary is likely closer to $300-$700 per season". There are some ultimate frisbee players in japan and some in the U.S who have jobs through the association. the google results seems to be false. the biggest benefit of playing on a professional team is that you do not have to pay to play. traveling costs can be well over 3,000 dollars and those fees are waived for players.

Good fact check! As a former member of the ultimate frisbee community myself, I can confirm your fact check. Most professional ultimate frisbee players do not earn enough salary to support themselves through the sport alone. While the sport may be slowly gaining popularity, the players I met with held jobs during the day, practiced when they could, and joined tournaments on the weekends. From my experiences, there seems to be simply not enough money in the sport to support full-time athletes. One slight exception may be with Team Japan. Half of Team Japan's members work for Bunka Shutters Co. which also sponsors the team. Still, the other half of the team have regular jobs. https://usopen.usaultimate.org/team/tokyo-buzz-bullets/
