According to a leaked salary list of the actors from the new hit musical-movie adaptation "Wicked", Ariana Grande was paid $15 million for her supporting role, while Cynthia Erivo, the star, was only paid $1 million.

The claim that Ariana Grande was paid 15 times more than Cynthia Erivo for their roles in "Wicked" is unfounded. A Universal Pictures spokesperson stated, "Reports of pay disparity between Cynthia and Ariana are completely false and based on internet fodder. The women received equal pay for their work on 'Wicked.'" (People, 2024).
This clarification addresses rumors that Grande earned $15 million while Erivo received $1 million. Such claims have been debunked by official sources, confirming that both actresses received equal compensation for their roles. (Screen Rant, 2024)

In summary, the assertion of a significant pay disparity between Grande and Erivo in "Wicked" is inaccurate, as both were paid equally for their performances.

I agree with this claim, Mirror is an unreliable source. Hello Magazine, a well known and respected source also debunked that this claim is false. The same quote from People, was also used in their article.

The sources used in the post may not have been trustworthy. Many sources including CNN and People have debunked the rumor proving that is it is false and both actors were paid appropriately.

People cam out with an article that proved this rumor to not be true. They said that Ariana and Cynthia got paid the same amount of money for this movie. The actors pay was never disclosed to the cast or to the public. These were just rumors that fans spread around.

The claim that Ariana Grande was paid 15 times more than Cynthia Erivo for Wicked is unverified. The source of the claim, The Mirror, has not provided credible evidence to back up the salary figures, and no reputable entertainment outlets have confirmed them. As such, this claim should be regarded with skepticism until more reliable sources come forward.

This was a great response, and was easily understandable. You also mentioned clear sources debunking the information, which clearly debunks the misinformation being spread. The difference between 15-1 ratio vs equally paid is quite a significantly different number, so this was important work!

This factcheck is very effective and thorough, they disprove the original claim which was made using information from a gossip site as a source. I really appreciate that they use more than one source and also pull direct quotes from people who are high up in the company and heavily involved in the financial situation which is being discussed.

The claim that Ariana Grande was paid 15 times more than Cynthia Erivo for her role in Wicked is inaccurate. This article by The Mirror cites no sources for its claim and refers only to baseless rumors and reports. Additionally, the article repeatedly mentions social media site X (formerly Twitter) as supporting evidence. Several reliable news outlets have addressed the alleged 14 million dollar pay difference. The rumors have also been addressed directly by the studio, according to a Universal Studios spokesperson, the actresses received identical pay for their work on Wicked. (New York Post, 2024)

When I saw this claim, I simply could not believe it. So when I first looked around I saw some articles talking about the pay gap. but then I started coming across more well known orgs putting out information that was saying "Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo received the same paydays for Wicked, the studio clarified after rumors of a large pay gap spread online" (People, 2024). Therefore this claim is false, and is just outright insane. to assume that an actress for a secondary role would get paid more than the main role.

This claim was twisted through the internet. Apps such as X(formerly Twitter), TikTok, and Instagram spread this false information without any reputable evidence. After researching the claim, “According to a leaked salary list of the actors from the new hit musical-movie adaptation "Wicked", Ariana Grande was paid $15 million for her supporting role, while Cynthia Erivo, the star, was only paid $1 million.” I first started with fact checking the source, Mirror. For starters, the source Mirror is unreliable according to Media Bias Fact Check. The site Media Bias Fact Check determines which websites are biased based on the left/right leaning scale. Along with this argument, the writer for this article, Ramla Jeylani, mainly works with the US Sun, which is yet another questionable source. Mirror Magazine is very biased and leaning far to the left and the US Sun is also extremely biased leaning far to the right, both of these are well known gossip sites. Many trusted sites also spoke on this subject such as Hello Magazine, People, CNN, ABC, Variety, and Hollywood Reporter. Each one of these sites used the same quote from a Universal spokesperson. The quote from them is, "Reports of pay disparity between Cynthia and Ariana are completely false and based on internet fodder. The women received equal pay for their work on Wicked.” This is the most important source, as Wicked was created directly by Universal Studios.

The claim made by the news source, "The Mirror", that Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo were paid vastly different amounts in the film "Wicked", is undoubtedly false. The author of the article, Ramla Jeylani, cited no sources, and only mentioned fan viewpoints on the claim from the social media platform, X. Furthermore, the author states “According to reports”, “a reported”, “Reportedly”, etc., throughout the article without ever referring to exactly which report or reports the information is from. Moreover, the news source “The Mirror” has mixed reviews on its reliability as explained by the sites “Ad Fontes Media” and “Media Bias/Fact Check”. The site “Media Bias/Fact Check” stated that “The Mirror” was rated “Mixed for factual reporting due to sensational content and emotionally driven narratives, as well as a failed fact check”, which in turn means any article you read on that site should be validated by another source, and most of the articles are intended to be flashy and get viewers emotional. “Ad Fontes Media” also rated them mixed reliability. After reaching out to Universal Studios directly to address the concerns, dependable new sources such as CNN, ABC, and Glamour have debunked the claim. According to Universal, “Reports of pay disparity between Cynthia and Ariana are completely false and based on internet fodder,” a spokesperson for Universal said in a statement shared with several outlets. “The women received equal pay for their work on ‘Wicked.’” In all, Universal is the most reliable source to find the answer as they are the company who produced the film and paid the actors.

From the Mirror article, it never actually confirms that Ariana Grande was significantly paid more than Cynthia Erivo for the "Wicked" musical-movie. Instead, every time that the "leaked salary list" was mentioned, how it was just a rumor. Additionally, it says that those numbers are reported, but never specifically by who it was that reported it.
Looking through other sources that address the rumor, they go to Universal itself to address those rumors where they claim it to be ultimately false. In an article from The Hollywood Reporter, they go to director of "Wicked" where too he claims that the actresses were both paid equally.
