This is True. Hospitals and clinical websites can agree with this with the Harvard Health website even saying 11-15 cups of water a day is the recommended amount. Drinking this much water a day can prevent dehydration which can make you have mood changes, can cause you to pass out, constipation and can help prevent kidney stones from building up, which is one of the worst pains someone can feel.

This article claims that you should drink 8 glasses of water every day. Within the article it states that an adequate daily fluid intake is about 3.7 liters of fluids a day for men and about 2.7 liters of fluids a day for women. I first checked the source of this article which is the U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine. I found this site to be a very reputable source that provides accurate information. To look into the claim further, I researched the average amount of water intake for an individual per day. An article from Mayo Clinic that states the exact same amount as the U.S. National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine suggested. However, 8 glasses of water equates to about 1.92 liters of fluids which is not the recommended amount. Based on this information, the claim is false.

This is partially true and could even a little misleading as there is really no set limit to how many glasses of water are needed to stay hydrated. According to the Nation Library of Medicine there were no scientific studies backing the idea of the 8x8 rule. It is important to take into account the specific needs of a person when hydrating, as the CDC has an article describing the many different factors that are taken into account when meeting your daily water intake.

The claim that drinking 8 glasses of water a day is essential for hydration is oversimplified. The Institute of Medicine suggests that “men should aim for about 13 cups (104 ounces) of total beverages daily, while women should target around 9 cups (72 ounces)” from all sources, not just water (Healthline).

Furthermore, as Medical News Today explains, “the ‘8 glasses of water’ recommendation is a guideline and doesn’t account for individual needs,” such as activity level and climate (Medical News Today).

Moreover, Vogue notes, “Hydration depends on many factors… individual needs are different.” The myth of the 8 glasses is outdated and doesn’t reflect the true complexity of hydration (Vogue).

Hello,

This has been found to be true. The 8 cups is referencing 8 ounces of water. This is a commonly known and verified health recommendation. Therefore, it was quick for myself to agree with this to be true. Additionally, the source being the mayo clinic is a very reputable source. The rest of the article gives further scientific reasoning as to why this fact is true.

The claim that “drinking 8 glasses of water a day is essential to hydration” is not entirely false, but it is also not completely accurate. While the idea is widely acknowledged, experts agree that hydration needs vary from person to person based on factors like lifestyle, environment, diet, and overall health. As one article explains, “For some people, fewer than eight glasses a day might be enough. But other people might need more.” Additionally, a publication from Harvard Health states that “most people need about four to six cups of plain water each day.” These sources make it clear that there is no one-size-fits-all guideline for daily water intake — it depends on the individual.
