Trump did in fact win the popular vote, but it was a close race. NPR says that "this year's popular-vote margin is the second-closest since 1968." CNN states that Trump won 49.9% of the popular vote, compared to Harris' 48.3%. As the linked FactCheck article explains, the social media users who claim he did not win the popular vote are misunderstanding the way the vote is counted. Even though Trump won less than 50% of the votes, he still received more votes than any other candidate received, making him the official winner of the popular vote.
