"TikTok’s future in the U.S. appeared uncertain on Friday after a federal appeals court rejected a legal challenge to a law that requires the social media platform to cut ties with its China-based parent company or be banned by mid-January.

A panel of three judges on The U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit ruled unanimously that the law withstood constitutional scrutiny, rebuffing arguments from the two companies that the statute violated their rights and the rights of TikTok users in the U.S.

The government has said it wants ByteDance, TikTok’s parent company, to divest its stakes. But if it doesn’t and the platform goes away, it would have a seismic impact on the lives of content creators who rely on the platform for income as well as users who use it for entertainment and connection."

This claim is true, AP news cites the US Court of Appeals and Tiktok losing their case in court, resulting in the platform being banned in America starting January 19th. This lawsuit is a result of the Justice Department claiming Tiktok poses a national security risk due to its ownership in China. ABC News (https://abcnews.go.com/Business/tiktok-requests-emergency-motion-stop-ban-taking-effect/story?id=116603490) corroborates these claims as well as adding Tiktok claims this lawsuit is a violation of their First Amendment rights. Both sources say Tiktok is being investigated due to speculation about potential data collection by the Chinese Government.

Due to sources such as: https://www.forbes.com/sites/alisondurkee/2024/12/06/will-court-uphold-tiktok-ban-what-to-know-as-ruling-expected-today/, and the response to the ban of Tik Tok previously, I strongly doubt that the platform will ever be shut down. While the discussion of owner changes is much more plausible, a world where Tik Tok doesn't exist is completely out of the question. Misinformation.

This is a great take and resource. TikTok has been claimed to be banned numerous times in the past five years but has never been followed through. Although the US has been gunning to ban this platform I agree with your claim that it is unlikely to happen due to false claims in the past and the policy never having enough votes! Thanks!

This claim as of today has been confirmed to be true due to this article as Tiktok loses the court appeal meaning that it is on track of getting banned by 2025. By law, tiktok will be banned from the united states by Jan 19 2025. Their only chance of being able to sustain in the united states is if the company is bought by a different owner.

ABC News is a credible source and the latest information we have is as of Monday, December 9th, 2024. This article was crafted 13 hours ago. So, with the information we have currently, it seems almost guaranteed that TikTok will receive the nationwide ban.
