This claim is false. Many credible health organizations such as the CDC, WHO, Global Health Council and American Public Health Organization have released statements and statistics proving face masks are effective against the spread of viruses. According to the CDC, "Wearing a mask can help lower the risk of respiratory virus transmission. When worn by a person with an infection, masks reduce the spread of the virus to others. Masks can also protect wearers from breathing in infectious particles from people around them". Additionally, the Mayo Clinic writes, "when used with measures such as getting vaccinated, hand washing and physical distancing, wearing a face mask slows how quickly the virus that causes COVID-19 spreads".
