Since Trump became president for his second term in 2025, less non-citizens are visiting the United States. There are several factors such as tighter border security, tariffs, and his overall attitude towards America and foreigners that makes it unappealing to visit. "The federal government's National Travel and Tourism Office released preliminary figures on Tuesday showing visits to the United States from overseas fell 11.6 percent in March compared to the same month last year," according to Global Nation Inquirer.net

Yes, this is true. The claim that international visits to the United States declined by 11.6% in March 2025 compared to the same month the previous year is accurate and confirmed by official U.S. government data and reporting by reputable news organizations including The Guardian and AP News.

According to AP News, “The federal government’s National Travel and Tourism Office released preliminary figures on Tuesday showing visits to the United States from overseas fell 11.6 percent in March compared to the same month last year. The number of air travelers from Mexico — not included in the overseas count — dropped even more, by 23 percent.” (AP News, May 28, 2025)
This figure is based on data from the National Travel and Tourism Office (NTTO) under the U.S. Department of Commerce, which tracks international travel statistics.

In addition, The Guardian corroborated this report and provided further analysis.

“The federal government's National Travel and Tourism Office released preliminary figures last week showing visits to the US from overseas fell 11.6% in March compared with the same month last year.”

“The travel forecasting company Tourism Economics, which late last year projected the US would have nearly 9% more international arrivals this year, along with a 16% increase in spending, revised its annual outlook last week to predict a 9.4% decline in arrivals.” (The Guardian, April 15, 2025)

These consistent reports from both AP and,The Guardian, citing federal data and expert economic forecasts, support the conclusion that the U.S. has experienced a measurable drop in international tourism, largely attributed to factors such as stricter immigration policies, tariffs, and the overall perception of the U.S. under President Trump’s second term.

The claim is factually true, and verified by data from the U.S. government and confirmed by multiple trustworthy news organizations.

The claim that "foreigners no longer want to visit the United States" is never explicitly said in the article. Furthermore, the article merely provides the current state of tourism in the United States and turns to the federal government's National Travel and Tourism Office preliminary figures for evidence to support the drop in tourism. The data showed an 11.6 percent drop in March compared to March of last year. There is nothing that supports this drop being due to foreigners "no longer want[ing] to visit the United States." The article itself quotes Tourism Economics president Adam Sacks that the survey data indicates a significant mix of cancellations and a massive drop in the intent to travel. Therefore, the drop in tourism could be due to a general drop in the intent to travel altgother, rather than just visiting the United States specifically. Travel data fluctuates all the time and while there could indeed be a correlation between the United States' president and foreign tourism, there is no causation in play. Below are a couple articles that show possible reasons for why foreign tourism could be dropping.

This fact-check is undeniably accurate. Meta’s Reality Labs division, which leads its metaverse initiatives, reported a $4.2 billion operating loss in the first quarter of 2025. This figure is supported by several credible sources. CNBC noted that while Reality Labs generated $412 million in sales, it still posted a $4.2 billion loss—slightly better than the $4.6 billion loss analysts had expected. The Register also confirmed this, adding that Reality Labs has accumulated over $60 billion in losses since 2020. These figures reflect Meta’s substantial investment in VR and AR technologies, despite limited user engagement with platforms like Horizon Worlds.

At the moment there is no valid evidence from major news outlets like BBC or The New York Times, confirming that visits to the United States by non-citizens have declined specifically due to Donald Trump’s second term beginning in 2025. While there are reports of increased global concern over Trump’s trade policies and tariffs, and some international unease about U.S. leadership, no official data or credible source confirms a direct link between his presidency and a measurable drop in tourism.

You mentioned that the BBC and NYT did not report on this, but I did find a BBC article stating that some foreigners are avoiding the U.S.

Since Trump began his second term in 2025, the United States has seen a noticeable decline in visits from non-citizens. This drop is likely influenced by several factors, including stricter border security policies, increased tariffs, and an unwelcoming political climate that may discourage foreigners from traveling to the U.S. As reported by Global Nation Inquirer.net, the National Travel and Tourism Office noted an 11.6% decrease in international visits in March compared to the same month the previous year, highlighting a broader trend in reduced foreign interest in U.S. tourism.

I think you're on to something when you say attitudes and policies toward foreigners can affect tourism. That's a valid hypothesis, especially considering how 'brand image' matters in national tourism. But you should strengthen your case with data over time, not just one month. Maybe compare international arrival stats from 2016 through 2025? That would give your argument more weight.

This is correct, many foreigners view the United States as a dangerous place to come and in some countries, people are told to never travel to the United States because of Donald Trump. I'm curious why you used the source you did, when NBC News, CNBC, the New York Times, and other news outlets have spoken on this subject.

This is true, as the United States government has stricter and more hostile enforcement on borders and traveling. The United States has been noticeably more hostile towards immigrants and foreign countries, contributing directly to the people who are less likely to travel there now.
