Construction workers using heavy machinery on Monday ripped the face off the East Wing, historically the domain of the first lady. The work is part of one of the largest renovation projects in decades at the White House: the building of President Trump’s 90,000-square-foot ballroom, whose cost he has put at $250 million.

The claim that the East Wing of the White House has been torn down for a ballroom is true. Multiple sources have reported on the demolition of the wing, including satellite imagery as further evidence of the claim. Additionally, sources with multiple differing political biases agree that the demolition of the wing was to “make way” for President Trump’s ballroom, approximately 90,000 square feet in size and $250 to $300 million dollars in cost. Sources also report that the Trump administration has not obtained proper approval for this project, with the National Trust for Historic Preservation asking the administration to pause demolition until ballroom plans are fully confirmed by the National Capital Planning Commission.

This statement is true. There are many sources that support this claim, including the White House itself. The official White House website says that,"The project will begin in September 2025, and it is expected to be completed long before the end of President Trump's term." In fact, as of Oct 30, 2025, the East Wing is now fully demolished according to NBC News, who also includes photos clearly showing the absence of a building where the East Wing was. The construction of the ballroom is an event riddled with lots controversy and has sparked many differing opinions from organizations, institutions, and everday American citizens. Regardless of this, the claim is true.

The claim "White House East Wing Facade Torn Down to Make Way for Ballroom" is true. The source provided, The New York Times, is a trustworthy website. But looking at another source, USA Today, they say on September 13th President Trump said "“It’s going to be a beauty. It’ll be an absolutely magnificent structure."  So, with the President himself saying something about the ballroom being built, this claim is definitely true.
