The NFL won't be pulling a fast one on Bad Bunny.  From the many sources I've collected I have to confirm that this is TRUE.  Quotes from reliable sources like The Guardian and NBC sports all confirm that, "The NFL will not drop Bad Bunny as its Super Bowl half-time headline performer, commissioner Roger Goodell said on Wednesday."  (The Guardian). Several NFL oriented YouTube channels have also taken to the platform to showcase there collected information, also stating the same facts that Bad Bunny will be performing at this years NFL Super Bowl half time show.

To be completely honest though, I'm not terribly surprised seeing as how much backlash was received when the Trump Administration announced that they would have ICE troops stationed at the game.  I was among the many people who found this to be an silly and somewhat racist move on behalf of Trump, all because Bad Bunny is a Mexican rapper.  Because of this backlash, I must say I'm glad to see the NFL is holding they're ground and keeping Bad Bunny as the lead performer.  This information is TRUE.

This claim is accurate and the provided articles are consistent with the information shared from the initial source of the claim.

The NFL commissioner, Roger Goodell, claims that the criticism is "inevitable" and says that choosing an artist that appeases the millions who watch the Superbowl is bound to receive backlash (Press, Commissioner Roger Goodell: Bad Bunny's Super Bowl halftime show not being reconsidered 2025). He goes onto say that the NFL purposefully chose Bad Bunny for his worldwide popularity.

This backlash stems from Bad Bunny showing opposition to the ongoing Ice Raids in America (Taysom, Bad bunny refused to tour the US due to threat of ice raids 2025) and some Americans believing that Bad Bunny's opposition and his potential set being primarily in Spanish is not aligned with American values (Lopez, The right's reaction to Bad Bunny performing in Spanish at the Super Bowl is ugly -- but not new 2025).

I researched this claim using Google, NBC Sports and The Guardian. According to NBC Sports, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell confirmed that the decision for Bad Bunny to be the lead performer at the Super Bowl LX halftime show will NOT be reconsidered. The Guardian also reported Goodell defending the selection, stating that Bad Bunny is “one of the leading and most popular entertainers in the world” and the NFL intends to keep him as the halftime performer. I found no credible evidence that the NFL is planning to remove Bad Bunny or that political pressure from previous controversies would change this decision. Multiple sports news outlets and official statements confirm that Bad Bunny will perform as planned. While YouTube videos by NFL channels echo this information, the primary confirmation comes from these established news organizations. Based on these sources, the claim is true, Bad Bunny will remain the Super Bowl halftime performer.

3). Claim: “The NFL will not reconsider having bad bunny as the lead performer for the Super Bowl LX halftime show”

The Claim that “The NFL will not reconsider having Bad Bunny as the lead performer for the Super Bowl LX halftime show” is accurate and consistent with the information/articles  provided. On February 8, 2026 Bad Bunny will be performing at Levi stadium for the super bowl halftime show. The reason this is of controversy according to NBC news is “The 31-year-old born Benito Antonio Martínez Ocasio has been vocal in his opposition to Trump and his policies. He decided to do a 31-day residency in Puerto Rico, avoiding stops in the mainland U.S., citing concerns about the mass deportation of Latinos.” Meaning that Bad Bunny is in opposition to the United States president and performing on one of the most popular and tuned in game of the NFL season. Reading from the Guardian, Goddell himself even commented on his choice of the performer; “It’s carefully thought through,” Goodell said. “I’m not sure we’ve ever selected an artist where we didn’t have some blowback or criticism. It’s pretty hard to do when you have literally hundreds of millions of people that are watching.” This essentially solidified that the NFL will not reconsider having Bad Bunny as the lead performer for the Super Bowl LX halftime show.

This claim is TRUE as the NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell stated that Bad Bunny's Super Bowl halftime show is not being reconsidered. Goodell, in an article released by the NFL said "I'm not sure we've ever selected an artist where we didn't have some blowback or criticism. It's pretty hard to do when you have literally hundreds of millions of people that are watching."

To be completely honest, I've found the reaction quite surprising as people usually like to see a "diverse" theme in the shows, especially when they have some type of theme that relates to the world right now. Take for instance, last year's Super Bowl halftime performer Kendrick Lamar, who made a world-defining performance captivating everyone around the world with today's political stance in the world. But, I will say I am excited to see what he will bring to the big stage this year and how everything will move forward.

This week, I studied the debate on whether the NFL would consider finding someone else to perform at the Super Bowl. The post claimed that the NFL would not reconsider its current halftime performer. I was unable to fully research the person who made this post, as their name did not appear on LinkedIn or any Google search results. Furthermore, on their account, I was able to see that they are from Portland, Oregon, and joined News Detective two weeks ago, and have only posted twice. This claim lacks credibility from the author, but regains trust and transparency with credible sources. The author Gavin Shafer does not have any other posts on this topic, so it is not their expertise.

With my own research, I was able to determine that many other sources directly aligned with this claim. ESPN put out an article stating that the NFL would not think about hiring any other halftime performer and would continue on with Bad Bunny as planned. The article includes statements from Roger Goodell, who is the current commissioner of the National Football League: "It's carefully thought through," Goodell said. "I'm not sure we've ever selected an artist where we didn't have some blowback or criticism. It's pretty hard to do when you have literally hundreds of millions of people that are watching." (NFL). These quotes remind us that almost every halftime performer has received backlash from fans. Last year at Super Bowl 58, rapper Kendrick Lamar performed and received some criticism for his performance: “Conservatives who seemed outraged by the very existence of Lamar’s performance crystallized America’s cultural divide” (Rolling Stones). This aligns with Goodell’s idea that there will likely never be a win-win performance, as someone is likely always going to be unhappy.

The backlash stems from people who dislike the fact that Bad Bunny performs the majority of his music in Spanish; he has also been a huge advocate for the LGBTQ+ community. Current president Donald Trump has also spoken out regarding this announcement, “I’ve never heard of him. I don’t know who he is. I don’t know why they’re doing it. It’s like, crazy” (Intelligencer). Many people who are making these claims have never even given his music a chance and are strictly basing their opinions on his ethnicity and the language he performs in. Additionally, it is also key to mention that Bad Bunny just completed a three-month tour and is about to embark on an eight-month world tour, without making stops in the United States. This is the result of huge concerns regarding ICE deportation. He wanted to protect his fans' safety, “But there was the issue of — like, fucking ICE could be outside [my concert]. And it’s something that we were talking about and very concerned about” (Intelligencer). Despite skipping the US on a world tour, he is still headlining the Super Bowl, and that made many conservatives upset.

The sources that I found had many direct sources, which mainly came from direct quotes. Quotes from the performer Bad Bunny and Roger Goodell represented the agreement with the performer and his message. Lines from Donald Trump showcase the opposing sides of the argument.

I believe that one key concept that is misunderstood by many is that Bad Bunny is not a Mexican rapper; rather, he is Puerto Rican. Additionally, it is likely that critics forget that Puerto Rico is a part of the United States. On social media, I have seen many people confused about why the Super Bowl would hire someone who is not an American citizen, which demonstrates a lack of education. Bad Bunny is an American citizen, as all people born in Puerto Rico are. I have seen these assumptions all over, including on the News Detective claim made by Gavin Shafer, claiming that Bad Bunny is a “Mexican rapper”.

Overall, I think all of the critiques and people who believe in broad assumptions demonstrate a lack of openness and respect for people and their cultures. Despite criticism from the public, it is clear that Bad Bunny is not going anywhere and will be continuing to perform at Super Bowl 59.

The claim that the NFL will NOT reconsider Bad Bunny to be the headliner at the super bowl after the major controversy surrounding the choice to have the Latin popstar is True.

Some background on why there is backlash for this choice in music artist can be answered by this article I found on RollingStone which states "They latched onto the fact that Bad Bunny would not be singing in English and grumbled about his political and immigration stances. (He has been outspoken about Puerto Rican independence and has called out Trump’s immigration policies, saying in a recent interview that he decided not to tour in the U.S. because of fears that ICE would harass his Latino fan base.)"

The main reasoning and evidence I have that the NFL is going to keep Bad Bunny as the headliner comes from a ESPN article that was published on October 22nd 2025 which clearly states in the first paragraph "The NFL is not considering dropping Bad Bunny as its Super Bowl halftime headline performer, commissioner Roger Goodell said Wednesday, reaffirming a decision to put the Grammy-winning Puerto Rican artist on the league's biggest stage, which led to criticism from President Donald Trump and some of his supporters." This is a credible source because ESPN is highly regarded as one of the best and most credible sites to get any information related to sports, and they even have other direct quotes from NFL commissioner Roger Goodell that reaffirm the first quote shared such as him stating "I'm not sure we've ever selected an artist where we didn't have some blowback or criticism. It's pretty hard to do when you have literally hundreds of millions of people that are watching."

This claim that the NFL will not reconsider having Bad Bunny as the lead Superbowl 2026 performer is correct.   On September 29, 2025, ESPN announced that Bad Bunny would be the headlining performer for Superbowl LX in Santa Clara, California.

Bad Bunny is a Puerto-Rican singer, songwriter, and rapper global superstar.   According to IMDB, he has won over 136 awards.

Bad Bunny has been incredibly outspoken throughout the Trump Administration’s efforts of deportation.  In fact, he even canceled the US leg of his tour. In an interview with i-D, he stated, “There was the issue of — like, f*cking ICE could be outside [my concert]. And it’s something that we were talking about and very concerned about.”

Bad Bunny and his fans being overjoyed at this announcement, the far right conservatives of MAGA felt differently.  In response to this announcement, President Trump had negative feelings.  “I never heard of him. I don’t know who he is,” Trump said. “I don’t know why they’re doing it, it’s crazy, and then they blame it on some promoter that they hired to pick up entertainment. I think it’s absolutely ridiculous.” (Rolling Stone).

In spite of the negative reactions and comments from politicians, podcasters, and even the president, NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has maintained his confidence in his choice.  He explained that Bad Bunny is one of the leading entertainers in the world.  He also stated that, "I'm not sure we've ever selected an artist where we didn't have some blowback or criticism. It's pretty hard to do when you have literally hundreds of millions of people that are watching." (People Magazine)

Overall, the claim that the NFL will not reconsider Bad Bunny as the halftime performer would be correct. Although there was a lot of backlash, there was also a lot of celebration when he was announced.
