The claim chosen talks about how if the TikTok ban were to last longer, how it could've potentially reshaped how we see the media today. People across the world have used tiktok as a tool, entertainment, and for job purposes. Slowly, it has become the top media app around the world, and many people use it to make money. It has been around since 2014, and it was purposefully made for a lip syncing app. In early January of this year, President Trump wanted to ban the app due to the government's concerns about how much data it was collecting from everyone's phones. “President-elect Donald Trump asked the Supreme Court to pause the potential TikTok ban from going into effect until his administration can pursue a “political resolution” to the issue,” (AP News). With this, is rose concern regarding how not having Tiktok could shape how media is laid out.

If a TikTok ban were to occur, brands would need to adapt quickly,”(Pierpoint). Not only brands, but the entire advertising platform; the amount of money spent on the app advertising products, brands would have to relocate to other platforms, while also balancing their budgets. Influencers, also known as content creators, often use the app to make income, and a ban would break their connection. “Influencers would need to pivot to other platforms, which might not offer the same level of engagement or reach,” (Pierpoint). Brands would also be negatively impacted because it's one of the major platforms that they have community engagement, and young inspiring creators to influence the brand. From the TikTok ban, this has taught brands to not only rely on one platform app to support their company, and to always branch out to others. Apps like Rednote, Lemon8, Youtube shorts, and Instagram reels are all tools like brands use, but heavily rely on tiktok because of their popularity. Overall, if the TikTok ban were to continue, brands and influencers would have to quickly adapt, but to further prevent this, it's always encouraged to explore other advertising and job opportunities.

In the article(s) I researched from, I completely agree with the claim that banning titkok could reshape how media is laid out today.

If broad bans or major restrictions on social platforms take hold, marketers would need to shift from a very large audience social posting toward more tightly targeted, legally-complaint and channel diverse strategies. Age-restricted access and jurisdictional limits reduce youth inventory, so brands would move budget into experimental real world engagements, gaming messaging apps or first party data systems. influencer campaigns would demand stronger multi-platform presence, transparent creator contracts and age-verification. Brands must embed governance and compliance into social workflows no more.

At this point, banning TikTok will not affect our society as much as many may think. TikTok’s influence has been very large in our modern society, but its influence has already been felt about as much as it is going to be. If we look at other social media platforms, such as YouTube, you will notice that other platforms already have the same general structure as TikTok. The short-form, vertical video concept has been adopted by all other forms of social media at this point. We can also look at user counts. As of the beginning of 2025, TikTok has the lowest user count of the main social platforms, with just over 1 billion active users. This is in comparison to Instagram, YouTube, and Facebook, which have 2, 2.5, and 3 times as many respective active users (prioridata.com ). Ultimately, the main impact that TikTok was going to make has already been made, and riding society of TikTok will not largely impact the way our social society is shaped.

This is true. If we just take TikTok's impact on news alone, and disregard the impact it has had on advertising, trends, fashion, and other information sharing (which is a huge impact, in my opinion, and according to one CNN report), we see that if TikTok were to be banned, how news is circulated would change drastically.

From Pew Research, 55% of TikTok users have reported that they regularly get news on TikTok which is an increase from the 22% that it was just a couple of years ago. This displays that the 55% of people who regularly use TikTok for their news would see changes to their daily news intake. This impact alone displays that the claim that if TikTok were banned, it could possibly reshape media today, is correct.

Further, 63% of teens report that they have used TikTok. This shows that if TikTok were banned, 63% of Teens, those that have used TikTok, will see changes to the way media is laid out.
