The claim that President Donald Trump has reduced prices in certain areas as well as reduced the overall cost of living is false.
Multiple sources state that Trump has yet to bring down prices of groceries, electricity, and cars. BBC, a typically left leaning news outlet has done extensive research on the topic. They state that while gas prices are slightly lower than last year, it is not from the Trump administration bit more from the world oil markets. In general, most prices that he has promised to reduce have dropped slightly, yet everyday prices are still high and so is inflation. Politico, an unbiased source pointed out that while gas prices have dropped it is nowhere near the rate that Trump claims it is. They also state that the president has limited control over crude-oil prices, and can do little to influence this market. Another unbiased source that backs up these statements is AP News, summarizing both the grocery and the gas prices that both BBC and Politico mention. News Week writes about Trump's public comments on these claims, stating that he believes we are doing much better than years past, however his specific comments, especially on Thanksgiving being cheaper is entirely misleading.
While some day to day costs have slightly dropped in the United States, inflation is still high along with those prices. So, the claim that Trump has reduced prices and cost of living is false and misleading.
