In November of 2025, President Donald trump stated that Democrats want to spend 1.5 trillion dollars on healthcare for undocumented immigrants. He has made this claim several times, such as on his October 19th interview with Fox News, his November 2nd interview with 60 minutes, as well as again on November 7th. Democrats have sought expanded health care coverage in some plans, including the affordable care act. Leonardo Cuello of Georgetown University has stated that the claim is "totally false" causing divide between the 2 opinions. The $1.5 trillion figure is real, but it is set to be spent over a course of 10 years with a large majority of the spending not in any way related to Illegal immigrants.

Official analyses of the budget proposals and health care programs have also shown the spending on undocumented immigrants is far lower than 1.5 trillion dollars. It is also stated that the original value of $193 billion is certainly reasonable as it applies to legal immigration and the $1.5 trillion is applied to any type, over a 10 year period.

Think of this as your investigation log. Answer each question to explain what you discovered and how you got there.

1. Write a brief overall summary of your findings.
Trump claimed that democrats are wanting to spend money for "illegal aliens" to have health care.

2. What primary sources did you find (e.g., transcripts, videos of politician speeches, tweets from public figures, scientific studies)? For each source, write at least one or two sentences explaining what you learned. Include all links.
I only found newspapers covering this topic, I found some videos but none of them had exact quotes.

3. What secondary sources did you find (e.g., newspapers, magazines)? Only use secondary sources if sufficient primary sources are not available. For each source, write at least one or two sentences explaining what you learned. Include all links.
NBC News - This source talks about how these claims by Trump are false, it explains that they aren't trying to spend money on "illegal" immigrants but restore federal health care coverage.

4. What potential biases or interests might each of your sources have?
There could be biases against trump and against the republican party and their policies and there can also be biases for or against health care coverage.

5. What evidence supports the claim you are fact-checking?
Different claims from quotes used in these articles.

6. What evidence undermines the claim you are fact-checking?
I couldn't find many videos or primary sources of these quotes or messages directly.
