During a meeting, the pageant chief at Ms. Universe's competition was seen in a video being disrespectful towards the contenstant representing Mexico calling her dumb and berating her for speaking up, telling her she needed to be quiet and sit down. She was very upset that he had just gotten upset with her over her management and showed her very little respect. She spoke up to defend herself and security was called on her escalating the situation even more.

After witnessing this reaction, a lot of other contenstants in the room decided to band with the berated contestent and walk out of the room in protest. The pageant chief claimed that if they left they would be disqaulified but many still followed the crowd out of the room. Following the incident there was a lot of talk about the way the pageant leader was being rude and disrespecting them as women, not allowing their voices to be heard and just being unprofessional. The head of Ms. Universe released a statement condemning the pageant chief saying his behavior was unacceptable and that everyone should be respected and have their voices heard.

The humiliation for the contestant became a way for her to remind viewers how important representation is and how speaking up to have your voices heard is crucial, in all countries, and for women especially. The competition is said to be continuing on as their organizations look to solve any issues and keep peace while making sure all contestants feel comfortable and willing to go on.
