Archer Aviation just took a huge step toward bringing air taxis to Los Angeles in time for the 2028 Olympics. The company spent $126 million on a long-term ground lease at Hawthorne Municipal Airport, which sits just a few miles from major Olympic venues like SoFi Stadium and the Kia Forum. Archer is still waiting for full FAA approval, but it hopes its electric air-taxi, the “Midnight,” will be certified by 2026. If that happens, the company plans to shuttle people around the city during the Games, offering flights that replace the city’s famously slow traffic.

The Midnight is basically a quiet, electric helicopter-like aircraft that can carry four passengers and a pilot. Test flights are already showing promising results, with speeds over 150 mph and 30-minute flight times. The Olympics would serve as the aircraft’s first big public test, and if all goes well, Archer says the service could eventually expand across L.A. to help cut traffic long-term. With the location secured, strong FAA cooperation, and a tight timeline lined up, it could be likely that Los Angeles will have functioning air taxis in time for the 2028 Olympics.

Upon taking into consideration sources on both local and national levels regarding this claim, it is appropriate to conclude that LA will have air taxis for the 2028 Olympics. To begin, we see several reputable news outlets local to Los Angeles are all reporting the same findings regarding air taxis for the LA28 games. For example, as published by NBC4 Los Angeles, the use of electric-powered air taxis designed to fly passengers between venues was announced by the LA28 organizing committee as of May 15, 2025. Alongside NBC4 Los Angeles, the Los Angeles Times reported on November 4, 2025, that material efforts toward this goal of utilizing air taxis during the LA28 games were being made. The primary company responsible for these efforts, Archer, purchased the Hawthorne Airport for roughly $126 million. Archer plans to utilize this airport as a hub for their air taxis during the Olympic Games. Extending our scope beyond the Los Angeles landscape, news sources at both the national and international levels are also conveying the same narrative that air taxis will have a great presence at the LA28 games. Outlets such as CBS News and BBC News both describe scenes of spectators flying through the Los Angeles skies during the 2028 games to escape and reduce the city’s infamous traffic. While all of these sources are reputable and report the same things, nothing provides more support to a claim than information coming directly from the source. On the official LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games website, the LA28 committee writes that Archer was selected as the official air taxi provider for the games. With a central goal of transforming the way people move around Los Angeles, as well as leaving a legacy that will transform the future of transportation, there is no doubt that air taxis will be present for the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Archer Aviation’s plan for air taxis at the 2028 Olympics is true. The company was officially picked as the air taxi provider for the LA28 Games and they spent $126 million to take over Hawthorne Municipal Airport. Their electric aircraft, called Midnight, can carry four passengers and a pilot and is meant to fly people between vertiports near big Olympic spots like SoFi Stadium and the Coliseum. Archer says they’re aiming for FAA approval by 2026 so everything is ready before the Games.

Because of this deal and the airport purchase, Archer has taken a big step toward actually making air taxis happen in Los Angeles. They want to use the Games to move fans and VIPs fast and avoid traffic. Test flights already show good results with fast speeds and short flight times. They still need full FAA certification but with the partnership and plans in place, it’s reasonable to think air taxis could be running by 2028.

While it would appear as though Archer Aviation and the city of LA are going to attempt to follow through on this air taxi proposition, that doesn't change the fact that it is still in the future, and we cannot predict to 100 % certainty what the future will bring. For all we know, aliens could take over the world before the 2026 Olympics. My point is that there is too much uncertainty regarding the future to make a claim this polarizing.

According to LA 28 it is true that Archer was selected as the official Air Taxi Provider of the LA28 Olympic and Paralympic Games and Team USA in Exclusive Deal. They will be used in the United States to transport fans, staff, VIP members, and others around. According to their website Midnight is Archer’s piloted electric air taxi designed to carry up to four passengers while producing less noise and emissions than a traditional helicopter. The eVTOL aircraft is built with redundant, fault-tolerant systems, including 12 total engines and propellers, allowing Archer to target certification with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). So, this is indeed true and I am very interested to see them in action.

The initial claim that the LA Olympic Games will use air taxis is true. For the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, organizers have partnered with Archer Aviation to introduce electric air taxis as part of the official transportation system. These aircraft are intended to transport VIPs, staff, athletes, and potentially fans between major venues, helping reduce traffic congestion in a city known for heavy roadway use. Archer’s electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft are designed to be quieter and produce fewer emissions than traditional helicopters, aligning with LA28’s sustainability goals. Overall, the use of air taxis reflects the Olympics’ role as a global stage for showcasing emerging transportation technology and innovative solutions to urban mobility challenges.

The fact that Los Angeles will have air taxis for the 2028 olympics is true. Archer aviation has been selected as the official air taxi provider of the next summer olympics. It has been confirmed by multiple sources including the LA 2028 website, CBS, and BBC. The air taxis will be used to transport VIP's, fans, and stakeholders during the games so that they don't have to sit in traffic. The aircrafts could also be used to support security and emergency services. They will be flying between key venues such as SoFi stadium and the Kia Forum. The aircrafts that will be used are electric aircrafts known as eVTOLS. They are quieter than a traditional helicopter and can carry up to four passengers and a pilot. Archer says they are working with the FAA to develop new rules for the taxis so that they are able to fly safely alongside other planes and helicopters in the sky.

After reading this article and looking for sources to conclude whether or not the LA Olympics will have air taxis, I concluded that this claim is true. This conclusion is supported by reporting from NBC Los AngelesCBS Los Angeles, and the official LA28 website. The source NBC Los Angeles covered air taxis as part of LA's transportation plans for the 2028 Olympics, including Archer Aviation's aircraft. Their reporting shows that air taxis are being actively planned as part of the Olympic transportation system, rather than remaining a hypothetical idea. Similarly, CBS Los Angeles reported that Archer Aviation reached a deal to use electric air taxis to transport VIPS, staff, and potentially fans between Olympic venues. This report explains how the plan could operate during the Games and further supports Archer Aviation’s role. On the official Olympic Games website, LA28, announced that Archer Aviation was selected as the Official Air Taxi Provider for the 2028 Olympic and Paralympic Games. This announcement confirms that the partnership is official and approved by the Games’ organizers, rather than a preliminary proposal. With all of this evidence, it is clear that there will be air taxis at the 2028 Olympics.

1. The LA 2028 Olympics will indeed attempt to bring in airtaxis through Archer.

2. https://la28.org/en/newsroom/archer-selected-as-official-air-taxi-provider-of-la28-games.html

Directly from the LA28 Olympic site, they state that Archer has been selected as the official air taxi provider for the 2028 Olympics. Their use will be that of transporting VIPS, fans, and stakeholders throughout the games. Their piloted electric air taxi will be designed to carry up to 4 passengers pretty silently and with fewer gas emissions than a traditional helicopter.

CNN News creates a story that is quite accurate to what the LA 28 Olympics website states; however, it adds a tone that insinuates that these air taxis may lead to a new form of aviation, as if that is Archer's main goal, which is misleading. This article also adds multiple quotes from the strategy officer at Archer Aviation, providing some sort of direct evidence.

4. My primary source could have some bias, as it is the official Olympic website, and they do want support for their new ideas, so bias and tone could definitely affect whether or not they gain support. My secondary source, also, could have a sort of left-leaning bias since it is CBS News, and they are known for more left-leaning editorial choices

5. Both of my sources support the claim that "Los Angeles will have air taxis for the LA Olympics," however it is still a big step and a work in progress, so in that way the claim could be misleading. However, the overall claim is ultimately true.

6. My evidence does not undermine the claim

7. When I tried to contact the person who made the claim, I did not receive a response.

Through research on local and national articles related to this post, it is evident that the 2028 Olympics will utilize air taxis as a travel resource. The company Archer Aviation, which, according to its website, creates "Electric air taxis." The primary source that confirmed the article's truth was CBS News. They wrote that " Archer Aviation signed a $126 million deal", which wording aligned with the Daily Mail's article. Another primary source was Archer Aviation's website, which they wrote that they are "working through certification with the FAA and other global aviation authorities to ensure our aircraft can safely integrate into the airspace". The main article itself didn't hold any biases. However, they use extreme language such as "insane," which hints at the author's excitement for the information. The fact-checking sources only use neutral language and hold no biases when talking about the information. In conclusion, the claim "Los Angeles will have air taxis for the LA Olympics“ is true and, there will be air taxis at Hawthorne Municipal Airport.

Based off the information that this website provides, the claim is true. The Olympics in LA 2028 will be sponsored by a company called Archer Aircraft which will provide the air taxis. These will be using Archer's Midnight eVTOL aircraft in order to transport the people that choose to use these taxis. To my surprise, this statement is true and I am extremely interested to see what will happen in the future.
