This claim is false. I checked the SSA website provided, as well as a few articles regarding the digital social security card requirement claim. Nowhere was it listed that there is a plan to replace ALL social security cards with digital copies.
"The Social Security Administration (SSA) is taking steps to provide a significant enhancement for my Social Security account holders, by introducing secure digital access to their Social Security number (SSN). This innovative feature is designed to provide the American public with a modernized, secure, and accessible alternative to the traditional physical SSN card." (Social Security Official Website)
Instead, it appears as though they are offering an alternative option for those who have lost/misplaced their physical cards, or simply would prefer a digital version.
"Now, the Social Security Administration is looking to give that form of ID an update by enabling secure digital access to Social Security numbers that will provide an alternative to the traditional Social Security card." (CNBC)
"The Social Security Administration (SSA) announced it will roll out secure digital SSN cards via the "my Social Security" online portal, offering a modern alternative to the traditional paper cards used for decades." (Newsweek)
