There are talks that Amazon plans to lay off a lot of employees like other companies such as Meta and Twitter. What is the validity of this statement?

I also found that Amazon is planning to lay off 10,000 employees in corporate and technology roles this week. CNBC claims to hear this from both the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal. These layoffs would only account for less than 1% of Amazon employees. Amazon has already announced plans to freeze hiring, so it is not surprise that they would follow other tech firms in layoffs as well.

I also saw that Amazon is laying off 10,000 of its employees. It is interesting to see that Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos is also planning on sending his girlfriend to space in that same time period. Seems hilarious to me. Here's the link below:

This is sadly true. My cousin who was formerly a Amazon delivery driver and he was just laid off due to apparent "shortages in hours." To me that seems like a blanket statement.

When exploring online to see what information I could find to properly fact-check this I came across CNBC and according to their reporters "Amazon reported disappointing third-quarter earnings in October that spooked investors and caused shares to sink more than 13%" and because of that they have begun their process of laying off employees. This sources has been confirmed from report from "The New York Times. Separately, The Wall Street Journal also cited a source saying the company plans to lay off thousands of employees."

Good explanation and sources. I like that you added a personal experience -- your cousin being laid off -- as additional evidence to support your claim.

I have heard this and it is true. The New York Times also confirmed it was true as well as this article I have pasted down below. The plan to lay off workers from corporate and tech roles.

I also found a source, specifically NPR that stated Amazon is laying off 10,000 employees and even from some other big companies like Meta. There seems to be a trend that is occurring with these renown companies.

This claim stands to be true. The article states that Amazon has laid more than 27,000 employees off from the year of 2022-2023. Not only have they laid off more than 10,000 people but that number has doubled since then. They have also claimed that they have been letting go of employees since 2024 which is leading into the year 2025. This source is credible as Brad Glasser who is Amazon spokesman has confirmed and reasoned why they let thousands of people go.

Good Explanation! I totally agree and I think your source is very credible. Only thing I disagree on is the part where you are explaining we are moving towards 2025 and they are possibly going to lay off more employees, I think they are going to lay off smaller groups of employees and I think we will actually see employees quitting because of not wanting to move to offices and work 5 days a week.

In November 2022, The New York Times reported that Amazon planned to lay off approximately 10,000 employees, primarily from its devices division, retail division, and human resources. This represented about 3% of Amazon's corporate workforce and less than 1% of its global workforce. This could very well be followed by a hiring freeze by amazon.

Amazon plans to lay off approximately 10,000 people in corporate and technology jobs starting as soon as this week, people with knowledge of the matter said, in what would be the largest job cuts in the company’s history. Andy Jassy who is in charge of layoffs, shouldn’t do layoff because what if some of the employees have families or have kids in the way. He would rather let the Amazon employees los their jobs, then the employees would strike aganist the layoffs.

Claim: Amazon is said to lay off thousands of employees

TRUE

This claim is true according to Amazon releasing they have and will be laying off employees, Which has been seen lately in tech companies. I found this verified in an article by CNBC, and in the article I found that Amazon had decided to pursue this because of a sink in the Amazon stock value and found that this was also a way Amazon was trying to enact a restructuring effort, according to executive Drew Herdener. This is very sad for the workers that got laid off but on the bright side Amazon is still continuing benefits, and job support for most.
