Accordingly, alcohol depresses the central nervous system in males, making it harder for some men to obtain and maintain an erection.

Absolutely! However, there's more factors that can contribute. Alcohol is also a diuretic which causes people to urinate more frequently. As Healthline puts it, while someone is drinking, they can have dehydration which leads to narrowing of the blood vessels due to a hormone called angiotensin. Angiotensin is released when a person becomes dehydrated. The narrowing of the blood vessels can lead to a limit of blood flow to the penis thus making it harder to get/ maintain an erection.

The nervous system also does play a big part, as stated in the claim. Alcohol is a depressant, which slows down neuron to neuron communications as the second source I am citing states. Brain activity itself is decreasing because of these decreased neuron communications. In turn, the signal to get and maintain an erection is decreased as well because the sensitivity is also decreased.

Drinking alcohol can make it difficult for men to have or maintain an erection. Drinking large amounts of alcohol is why this can happen. But, this isn't the only problem that is caused by alcohol. There are many other things that can happen if you keep reading.

This study tested 100 male subjects. They found that 72% of men with alcohol dependencies had sexual dysfunction problems (like erectile dysfunction or low sex drive). They also found that the intensity of their alcohol dependency affected how dysfunctional they were sexually.

This is true.

According to FHE Health Alcohol can act as a blood thinner. Since an erection is caused by blood flow to a body part, alcohol can negatively impact a persons ability to preform in sexual situations.

This statement is true.  From the National Library of Medicine (https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2917074/)

I found the answer in an article by Bijil Simon Arackal and Vivek Benegal on the National Library of Medicine website.  The information in this article is from various publishings by medical journals and the results of a study conducted to find correlation between erectile dysfunction and alcohol consumption.

There is a relationship between alcohol consumption and a man's ability to get an erection.  However, it does not occur in every male and is more common in those who heavily depend on alcohol on a regular basis.

ARACKAL & BENEGAL (NLM) - Seventy-two per cent had one or more sexual dysfunction, the most common being premature ejaculation, low sexual desire and erectile dysfunction. The amount of alcohol consumed appeared to be the most significant predictor of developing sexual dysfunction.

Sexual dysfunction is common in patients with alcohol dependence. Heavy drinking proportionately increases the risk. Clinicians need to routinely assess sexual functioning in alcoholic patients so that other factors contributing to sexual dysfunction can be ruled out.

This claim is true.

According to a study published in the Indian Journal of Psychiatry, “Prevalence of sexual dysfunction in male subjects with alcohol dependence” Bijil Arackal and Vivek Benegal conduct clinical trials with a sample of men and conclude that the majority of test subjects experienced “sexual dysfunction, the most common being premature ejaculation, low sexual desire and erectile dysfunction. The amount of alcohol consumed appeared to be the most significant predictor of developing sexual dysfunction”, establishing a positive correlation between alcohol dependence and sexual dysfunction in men. This claim is indeed true! An article from Healthline confirmed that alcohol affects a man's erection. The article states, "Consuming a large amount of alcohol in a short period of time, such as a single evening, can cause changes that make it more difficult to get an erection. These changes can occur in your: nervous system, hormone levels, and circulation." The article overall discusses what exactly contributes to an erection and how alcohol can affect them in detail. The article also states, "According to a 2018 study, short-term consumption of alcohol depresses your central nervous system and slows down the transmission of information between your brain and penis. This can lead to decreased sensitivity of the penis." Therefore alcohol does affect a man's erection. Not misinformation!

The National Center for Biotechnology Information did a study on the prevalence of sexual dysfunction in males with an alcohol dependency. They studied 100 male subjects who had been diagnosed with alcohol dependence syndrome and were admitted to a "deaddiction" center. 72% of the subjects had one or more sexual dysfunction. With this, they concluded that patients with alcohol dependents also commonly suffer from sexual dysfunction.

Science says, alcohol does affect a man’s erection. Drinking a lot of alcohol can make it hard to get or keep an erection, when this occurs it is called erectile dysfunction. There are many reasons for this, one being alcohol depresses the central nervous system in males. When men are hooking up with their partner, the brain sends messages to the penis, which tells it to become erect. When drinking, the nervous system is slowed down. The nervous system slows down brain activity which has an impact on a man's erection. Another reason is due to the dehydration in the human body that alcohol produces. Drinking lowers blood volume and reduces circulation, and erections rely on healthy blood flow. As well, this may lead to erectile problems. The source I got this information from is credited as it covers all things health. Some of its popular columns include sexual health, fertility, and daily health. Their article on “Whiskey Dick” is medically reviewed by a very credible Doctor and they cite many scientific sources. The other source goes into depth about the central nervous system and appeals to a more general crowd unaware of this topic.

Alcohol not only affects men's ability to maintain an erection, but it also affects your ability to orgasm, sex drive, size of sex organs, and fertility. According to HSE.ie "Alcohol interferes with the messengers in the brain that tell the penis to fill with blood." Over time alcohol will lower testosterone levels, which will also lower the sex drive.
