According to this video posted on TikTok, a popular social media platform, nurses advice individuals in their early 20's to receive "preventative botox."

In reference to botox injections, "It can be more cost effective because at a younger age, we typically use less units and prevent deeper lines that would require more units in the future."

TikTok is not necessarily a reliable source, so I am curious to know the facts, if any, behind this claim.

This claim is true. According to the heathline.com article, "Preventative Botox: Does It Ward Off Wrinkles?," it focuses on how preventative botox is meant to start before any wrinkles are visible. The article specifically mentions how, "people in their mid-to-late 20s or even early 30s would be considered candidates for preventative botox." To back that up even more, Dr, Debra Jaliman was quoted and she says how "twenty-five would be a good age to start if you have a very expressive face and lines."

I also googled Dr. Debra Jaliman to check in with her profession. She is a certified dermatologist since 2007. She has her own website where she goes into details about Botox and who it may be suitable for. She seems like a credible and reliable source to trust considering that is is her expertise.

But could early Botox treatments cause visible aging at the same time? Harper's Baazar's reporting on this includes: "...Facialist and skincare expert, Lisa Harris is 'strongly against the idea' of preventative Botox. She says that 'Starting Botox at a young age and having it regularly will weaken the muscles of the face. In time the muscles will become atrophic and not be able to hold the skin up adequately. As a result this will age the skin in the long run.' In her opinion, "preventative Botox is actually speeding up the ageing process of the muscle and skin.'"

Also, I went to Dr. Jaliman's link that you provided -- it's not a direct link to your information source. It's the homepage. Going forward, please include direct links.

In response to receiving botox in early 20's is better at preventing wrinkles, which has factual evidence to back it up. In an article titles, 'When to start botox: The age to get prevention botox Gainesville and why,' Pure Aesthetics reports, "Most experts agree that patients in their mid to late 20's and early 30's are at a good age for prevention Botox treatment."

https://www.pureaestheticsgainesville.com/start-botox-age-get-preventative-botox-gainesville/

Furthermore, in an article titled, 'Do you need to start botox early,' Dr. Nazarian reports, "When you use botox, you are preventing fine wrinkles and preventing deepening of those wrinkles that you already have." Therefore, getting botox earlier is the best way to prevent wrinkles and dark lines.

When looking for reputable sources, also consider if a particular one gains from stating a certain position. For instance, your first source offers Botox and other treatments, so for them to say "get Botox in your twenties" might be more of a marketing ploy for more business. The best sources are objective ones, and in this case reputable media or medical establishments.

Yes, this claim is true. People start showing facial signs of aging in their 20s. When Botox or anti-aging treatment is applied to someone in their 20s with minimal aging, it will mitigate the natural aging of the face by preventing wrinkles. Moreover, a protein that is a contributor to facial aging is collagen, or lack there of it. Thus, with Botox and anti-aging treatment, the synthetic upstream regulation of collagen production will allow for a more youthful appearance and sustain it for a longer period of time. However, there cons to this process in addition to cost, wherein, the effects of Botox treatment in the one's 20s will not be as apparent than that of someone in their 40s.

However, I do like that they offer cons to getting Botox so young, but they don't offer medical reasons. They say that it's a financial commitment, etc. Meanwhile, there are actual medical concerns when starting Botox very early. https://www.byrdie.com/long-term-effects-of-botox#:~:text=Botox%20Might%20Make%20Skin%20Visibly%20Thinner&text=This%20isn't%20common%2C%20but,muscles%20weaker%2C%22%20she%20says.

According to Vogue in "Here's what you need to know about preventative botox in your 20's," getting Botox early can be beneficial, however only if done properly. The article states,"If you start [getting Botox] early enough and it's done properly, you're not going to need [as much] in the future." This is due to younger faces having wrinkles that are not as deep and easier to get to. However, too much Botox too fast can actually age you more. "If you do too much Botox on your forehead for many, many years, the muscles will get weaker and flatter," cautions Wexler, a dermatologist. Too much Botox can cause your muscles to weaken, which causes the use of other muscles that you normally wouldn't use and causing more wrinkles in other places. So, yes getting Botox early can be helpful, but only if done in appropriate amounts.

This claim is true.

"The aim of getting Botox in your 20s is to prevent wrinkles happening in your early 30s. Botox in your 20s is best used as preventative measure to avoid the fine lines and wrinkles occurring and becoming a more permanent fixture when our facial expressions are resting. Many patients get Botox earlier as a preventative measure if they know they have an expressive face and are concerned their lines will become more established."

This information is from Tara Jackson, RGN Senior Aesthetic Medical Practitioner at Cosmetic Skin Clinic.

Don't forget to consider your sources. A skin clinic offering Botox treatment might be more inclined to say that Botox is helpful at an early age for profit reasons. It's best to dig further for more reliable and credible sources.

This claim is true. Preventative Botox can reduce and minimize fine lines before they begin. By beginning Botox at an early stage, it is easier to combat the signs of aging later on, if that is the desire. By waiting until fine lines or wrinkles appear without any preventative measures, Botox may not be able to achieve the same, perfectly smooth results. However, Botox is tedious and typically wears off. It needs to be injected frequently, making it quite costly. Not to mention, after extended periods of use, it can actually weaken the muscles causing them to become more flat. It is also critical to remember that beauty standards are always evolving. Those who use Botox should always make educated choices regarding their injections.

According to Vogue, preventative botox can benefit you when used conservatively, but too fast too soon will have adverse effects and will age you. It is beneficial when used preventatively because when you are younger, you will need less units of botox to fix a specific issue such as crows feet you see forming. However this only works if done correctly and conservatively. However botox only lasts three to six months, and facial muscles naturally weaken over time. This will become very apparent with two much botox in one place and therefore produce an adverse effect. Therefore, this is true to some extent but can be misleading without proper supplementary research.
