On Wednesday, Justin Trudeau announced that he and his wife had separated. In an Instagram post uploaded on Wednesday, he says that their decision came after "after many meaningful and difficult conversations." They were married for 18 years before deciding to separate.

The assertion that Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his wife are separating is true. According to a recent NPR article, "Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and his wife, Sophie Gregoire Trudeau, announced Wednesday that they are separating after 18 years of marriage." As referenced in the article, the couple elaborated on their separation on Instagram. The family is remaining relatively private about the details of the separation but according to the former couple, they are focused on raising their children.

Looks like it is true! https://apnews.com/article/justin-trudeau-wife-separation-canada-b936de573af33a7d078c63691edda60b

Looks like they are separating relatively amicably, as they share 3 children. The AP article states:

  • “They remain a close family, and Sophie and the prime minister are focused on raising their kids in a safe, loving and collaborative environment,” the statement from Trudeau’s office said. “The family will be together on vacation, beginning next week.”

Not misinformation!

The quote helped to determine to whether or not the claim was misinformation or true.

The addition of the quote as well as the info from the website was very helpful in determing the validity behind this.

This is true. Justin Trudeau himself has confirmed on his official Instagram that him and his wife have “made the decision to separate.”

This is True.

Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau and his wife Sophie are separating after 18 years of marriage. According to CNN, Trudeau states, "After “many meaningful and difficult conversations” with Sophie, “we have made the decision to separate.”The two also stated on their instagrams, "As always, we remain a close family with deep love and respect for each other and for everything we have built and will continue to build."

It appears to be true that after 18 years of marriage they are getting divorced.

"Sophie and I would like to share the fact that after many meaningful and difficult conversations, we have made the decision to separate," Trudeau said on Instagram. Gregoire Trudeau posted an almost identical message on her own Instagram account.

Good work finding the information from Trudeau himself. You can't find a better source than that.
