The events in the article are true. According the The U.S. Attorney's Office - District of Oregon, the victim was able to break the cell door by banging on it. The offender was arrested is facing life in federal prison for interstate kidnapping.

Also the FBI is currently investigating this case, and is looking for possible past victims of the offender.

It's true. I found the official court documents including images of the constructed cell.

Here is an excerpt from the report detailing the escape.

"A Vl briefly slept and awoke to the realization that she would likely die if she did not attempt to escape. AVl repeatedly banged on the door and was able to break the door open and escape the room. Once outside ofthe cell, she observed the Zuberi's vehicle parked in the garage, opened the vehicle door, observed the handgunretrieved itand fled. A V 1 sought assistance from a passing motorist who called 9-1-1 ."

In this example "AV1" refers to the victim.

It's True. A CNN article states that The woman managed to escape the makeshift "dungeon" Zuberi had confined her in by breaking the welds on the security screen door and climbing through a small opening. Police tracked down Zuberi using cell phone technology following her escape, subsequently finding evidence of the makeshift prison and the victim's belongings upon executing a search warrant in his garage.
