What I have found from multiple articles and news sites is that Trump was officially indicted by a grand jury in New York on felony charges.
The LA Times says, "Trump was arraigned in a New York state court Tuesday on 34 felony charges stemming from payments his attorney made shortly before the 2016 election to a porn actor who said she’d had an affair with Trump. He pleaded not guilty to all charges."
Because he was officially arraigned and indicted by a grand jury, that means that he had to be placed under arrest. This is all explained by the article I linked from TF Law, explaining the entire process.
I also found an official statement from CNN that says, "Trump surrendered and was placed under arrest Tuesday before he was arraigned in a historic and unprecedented court appearance, in which the former president heard the charges against him for the first time."
There is still no mugshot or any sort of similar records released, but still he was arrested as part of the process. It is possible that those will be released later sometime soon.
This information means that the claim is true.
