This claim is false as it wasn’t Yemen that declared war on Israel, but people referred as “Houthi Rebels”.

According to usatoday, “There is no evidence the internationally recognized government of Yemen has declared war on Israel. Houthi rebels fighting for control of Yemen launched attacks on Israel.”

Here we see that it isn’t Yemen as a whole but a group of Houthi that seems to want to declare war and fighting over control of launching attacks to Israel.

From ABC News, they have said, “The Houthis, who have held Yemen's capital, Sanaa, since 2014 as part of that country's ruinous war, claimed three attacks on Israel in a later military statement, without elaborating on the timeframe of the operations and whether Tuesday's salvos represented one or two attacks.”

Here is more information on Houthis and how they are fighting to gain more control and is claiming these attacks.

Your fact-check regarding the claim that Yemen declared war on Israel is accurate and well-researched. You shown it was not the state of Yemen but rather the Houthi rebels who have claimed responsibility for attacks on Israel. Your sources provide information to educate those who aren't informed about the Israel conflict.

This fact check was well done and gave a solid amount of back-up information to support its claim of being false. The background information you did on the rebel group was also very insightful.

I appreciate the quotes included in the fact-check and the sources you provided. You addressed the most important fact which is the Houthi Movement.

This Claim is False

Yemen's capital- Sanaa, is currently being occupied by a rebel group named "The Houthis". This rebel group confirmed they had fired missiles and drones at Israel, but these strikes are not indicative to where the country as a whole stands. The Republic of Yemen is the recognized government and has no relations with the Houthis, and recognized government has not declared war on Israel.

Not much more than that, but essentially, no, Yemen did not declare war.

Nicely use of evidence and good to state that much hasn’t been said, but still credible to prove this claim false.

Perfectly done. The addition of saying not much more has been done helps to show the full view of the story and how little information has come out of Yemen about the situation. The summary at the end also ties it together nicely.

The claim that Yemen has declared war on Israel is false. According to AP News, Houthi rebels launched missiles at Israeli targets. There is no evidence showing that the Yemen government has declared war on Israel. This false claim was also proved to be false by Snopes. The original claim stemmed from multiple social media posts, mainly on X. The Houthi rebels claimed responsibility for the missile attacks.

You used reliable sources and easily addressed the false claim. I wasn't aware of how much social media circulation was found on this topic.

Yemen has not declared war on Israel. The Houthi rebels, who control parts of Yemen, have launched missiles toward Israeli targets but have not declared war on Israel. The conflict between Israel and the Houthis is more about Yemen politics and support for Palestinians rather than a formal declaration of war.

After researching the claim "Yemen has declared war on Israel" I have come to the conclusion that it is false. I was unable to find anywhere that the Yemen Government had made such a statement. I did find an article written by the Associated Press, clarifying the statement. Yemen has not made any statement or attacks but "Houthi rebels that control the country’s capital launched missiles at Israeli targets this week and threatened further attacks. But experts say the Iran-backed militia stopped short of declaring an all-out war against the Jewish state," (Marcelo, AP). So even though the photo looks like a Yemen Government official making a statement, it is really a member of the Houthi Rebels.

This claim is false. It came from the fact that Yemen's capital, Sanaa, is being held by a rebel group called The Houthis. Yemen has been in a civil war for 9 years that was initiated by the rebels. These rebels are being supported by Iran financially and with equipment. This is an extreme group that, in nice terms, doesn't like America, Israel, and Jewish people. They currently hold a significant part of Yemen which includes the capital.

This is a false claim. Yemen has not in fact declared war on Israel; Houthi rebels have launched missiles against the Israeli government, but no official Yemen government statement has been made declaring the country's intent to war with Israel. This has been confirmed by multiple sources, including this post by AP news:

False Claim.

Mentioned in the article and shown in the image is Yahya Saree, the official spokesman for the Houthi Movement in Yemen. The movement in itself opposes the Yemen Government and President by operating against its beliefs. The Houthis have launched missiles and armed drones against Israel, and state that they will not stop until Israel ceases war on Hamas. This is all part of The Red Sea Crisis involving the Isreal-Hamas War from October 2023. The Houthi Movement stands with Palestine and demands a ceasefire.

From this Background, the claim is false. The Yemen Government has no affiliation with Houthi, however in terms of the content of the article, it does include valid points of demanding a ceasefire and showing aggravation towards the United States for supporting Israel.

It is important to note that this article is found in MEHR News Agency, which is an Israeli Government owned News Agency, and is titled “semi-official”.
