The U.S. has started war with Iran.

It appears that this article may be false. After doing some research I can see that in October 2023 when NBC wrote it, Jake Sullivan claimed that Iran isn't seeking war with the United States. I thought it was interesting how easy it can be to get mixed up about events, the article did its best to be clear but there were times when I had to go back and reread a sentence or two. I am curious why you decided to use an Instagram account that doesn't have much credibility as your source - the page looked questionable to me at first glance.

This claim is misleading. There has been no direct or recent claim that the U.S. has gone to war with Iran. The most recent article I could find addressing U.S. and Iran involvement is from October 2023. NBC News article states, "Iran is not currently seeking a direct war with the United States but that it is looking to ratchet up pressure on Israel and the U.S. through its proxies in the region." Iran is not seeking or trying to go to war with the United States. Therefore, this article appears to be false.

After doing some outside research I have found this claim to be false. This story by NBC was posted on October 20, 2023. It included a quote from President Joe Biden's national security adviser, Jake Sullivan who said, "Iran isn't seeking direct war with the U.S." but instead "we (the U.S.) can't rule out that Iran would choose to get directly engaged in some way". Jake Sullivan has held numerous roles in the White House including National Security Adviser to the Vice President in 2013-2024.

This quote pertains to Iran starting a war with the US. The question is whether the US has started a war with Iran. Maybe find another source, quote, or article that relies on information about troops or military movement that diminishes the credibility that the US has started a war with Iran, not the other way around.

Your answer doesn't technically address or fact-check the claim at hand. This isn't solely about the current actions of our U.S. government in relation to starting or avoiding a war with Iran. The claim primarily refers to a potential series of actions initiated by the U.S. over the past century that may have contributed to the initiation of a conflict with Iran.

I recommend delving deeper into articles and historical events to either debunk or support this claim. Additionally, it would be good to incorporate sources from organizations or individuals outside the U.S. government to provide an external perspective. A U.S. National Security Advisor may not openly admit to starting a war with Iran, as doing so could lead to potnetially being outsed from their current administration.

Your fact check states that the Iran isn't actively seeking war with the US, but the original claim was that the US has started war with Iran.

I would reccomend, even though the US and Iran may not be  starting war, instead of only going to one source (NBC News) try to delve deeper into more sources that would help you find a more conclusive answer. Your answer doesn't directly check whether this claim is true or false.

@charlie_townes I like that you analyzed the fact-check in relation to the claim. To me, it sounds like this fact-check did address the claim. S/he stated that it is false and that Iran isn't planning to start a war, which would mean it didn't even start one, no? It covers both of the claims in a way?

Id say your claim and post are false and misleading. Unless you are referring to the the Iranian funding of hamas which I doesn't seem you are. The post you linked has zero credibility and is full of disinformation.

Thanks for commenting on the claim. Solid fact-checks should be supported by sources. So if you feel this is false or misleading, it would be best to include some more information, data, quotes from legitimate sources. So for this one, what proves that the post is false and misleading?

Thanks for commenting your fact-check of this claim!  Although you are correct, using sources and explaining why you feel the link provided has no credibility would really help your answer. Also what disinformation are they spreading and why would you label it as disinformation?  I'd love to hear more information on why you believe this claim is false.
