On X, PoliticsVideoChannel claimed that the Trump family will leave the United States if Donald Trump does not win this election. But in the post from PVC, there were no direct sources to actually support the claim made in the post, which calls into question the accuracy of such an assertion.

The claim that Trump's family plans to leave the U.S. if he loses the election was published by Politics Video Channel on the platform X also known as Twitter. In this article it doesn't contain any links that connect directly to the claim. However when you search this claim up a article from Vanity Fair claims that in a interview with Elon Musk CEO of Tesla and X, Trump mentions that he would rather move to Venezuela if Harris gets elected because he feels it would be safer there then the U.S. under Kamala Harris. These comments have not been published by any other news networks and no major publishers, as well as the date that Trump had this interview was from August 2024 so no where near the publish date of the article. Therefore I would say this is exaggerated and misleading.

I feel like this is a really strong fact check. I really liked how you referenced a solid source, while also not completely playing off the claim on the article. I feel as if stating that the source was misleading and exaggerated was the best way to explain it.

I agree that this is most likely just Trump exaggerating to prove his point and that this article probably is just wrong with the date mess-ups.

I like that you included the Vanity Fair article which is where this misleading claim originated from. The original article itself, however, also exaggerates Trump's statement about moving to Venezuela. However, when a reader uses their critical skills, it becomes obvious that he is not being serious in this statement, and the journalists have highly exaggerated it.

The claim that Trump's family plans to leave the US if Donald Trump loses the election was published by PoliticsVideoChannel (PVC) on X (Formerly Twitter). The post does not appear to link any sources for the claim either- putting into question the legitimacy of the post. Further, other posts from PVC don't seem to provide sources either. With this in mind, Donald Trump has suggested that he would leave for Venezuela if he were to lose the election. He made these remarks in an interview with Elon Musk: the owner of Twitter and CEO of Tesla. In the interview, Trump stated that Venezuela was a "far safer place" than the US in the outcome of a victory by Kamala Harris in the 2024 general election (Hindustan Times & Vanity Fair).

In addition, no other credible sources or outlets have supported this most recent story- further suggesting that Trump's family might not be leaving the US under a potential Harris presidency. A generous take would be that PoliticsVideoChannel was exaggerating the comments made by Trump in the Musk interview; however, the comments Trump made were back in August 2024 and not anytime near the post's date of publishing (October 29th, 2024).

Ultimately, the story appears to be false or misleading and wider reporting needs to be released in order for this determination to change.

Good job on this very thorough reply! I completely agree with your assessment of this claim running with a seemingly offhanded comment that doesn't appear to hold any real weight. The fact that the original source provides no further information or sources reinforces that this was likely posted for quick attention and to mislead audiences.

The claim that the Trump family plans to leave America if Trump loses the election is false. The claim is in a post on X (formerly known as Twitter) by an account called 'PoliticsVideoChannel'. This tweet has no information besides the title itself and an unrelated picture of the Trump family.

Upon further research, I found that the closest thing to a source that this tweet could be based on is an interview that Elon Musk and Trump had. The direct quote stating that "If something happens with this election, which would be a horror show, we’ll meet the next time in Venezuela, because it’ll be a far safer place to meet than our country. So you and I will go and we’ll have a meeting and dinner in Venezuela.” (Vanity Fair).

However, the implication that the entire Trump family would move to Venezuela if Trump lost cannot be sufficiently claimed from this source (which wasn't given in the tweet). Overall this claim is false and misleading and has no linkage to any credible sources.

This is a good breakdown of the events. I also looked into it, and the claim comes pretty much entirely unbacked. I appreciate your further research into the interview from Vanity Fair! This shines light on where the tweet came from and put into perspective what people can take out of context. Is it possible for you to link the interview with Elon Musk and Trump?

This claim was originally found on X, also known as Twitter, by an account named PoliticsVideoChannel. The post provides no source or link to any information, which immediately is a flag that this could be false advertising. A quick google search of the claim brings up several articles with no talk of Trump and his family fleeing the country if Harris wins. There was one article though, further down on the google search, from Vanity Fair. The headline was "Trump Suggests He’ll Flee to Venezuela If Harris Wins the Election". The article states that Trump was talking during an interview about how Venezuela has a lower crime rate than the US, and how it would be much safer to live there than in the US under Kamala Harris' presidency. However, seeing that this claim was only in this one article and that I cannot find it anywhere else on the web I would say this is false and pretty misleading.

The claim that if Trump loses the presidential election, then the Trump family will leave America is false. The link provided takes you to a X (formally Twitter) post by "Politics Video Channel," which includes no links to sources either. X is not a site that fact checks the information posted, meaning anyone can post anything. And when you click on the website for "Politics Video Channel," what comes up is a suspended account. Both these facts show that the sources of this claim are not reputable or legitimate. Also significant, when you look up the claim in google, not a single article comes up supporting that the Trump family would leave America under a Harris presidency, further showing that this is not a true claim. The closet this claim may come to true is, as sited by a Vanity Fair article, when Trump was speaking to Elon Musk, and mused that if the election did not go his way, the two of them would have to meet in Venezuela, because it would be safer than America. However, this statement was made in August 2024, and this claim was posted on X in October, showing there is not much correlation between the two. The facts of the unreputable sources, not other news outlets reporting anything similar, and the lack of correlation with a comment Trump made months ago show that this claim is false.

Many sources cited one Twitter video in which Trump says to Elon Musk that they’ll meet for dinner in Venezuela if “something with this election” because it will be a much safer place than the United States. While it is true that Trump wants to leave America if he loses the election, this claim is saying that he and his family will move to another country if he loses. This however is not true. I don’t think Trump and his family will leave America for good as he owns businesses and properties in the United States.

On the platform formerly known as Twitter, it was claimed that the Trump family planned to move out of the United States. Upon looking into the claim, all I was able to uncover was another fact-checking website disputing the claim and unsubstantiated the claim. No reputable news sources reported on the post and otherwise, no other sources seem to be commenting on it.
