Can't be true or false. This appears to be a personal opinion. It is worth noting that gender can be defined as biological, social, or cultural. Biological sex is usually categorized as male or female. Whereas, gender is has a spectrum of identifications, such as nonbinary, genderqueer, agender, etc.

This can't be deemed true or false because to some people there are only 2 genders. You are either born female or male. But as you grow as a person you are able to change your identity to something that fits you. And nobody can take that away from you.

Hi juliannichol! I'm curious if you have any sources to back your claim that some people believe there are only two genders? It seems as though you are giving an opinion for other people as there is no solid research or research to back this claim.
Another things to note is how the answer given by zenyogi differentiates gender and sex, and how it then influences the perspective on how people view the amount of genders that exist.

Even though this could be a good answer, there weren't any sources to back up what you had said. I do agree on how this could be opinion-based depending on how someone sees it. There are many sources to back up whether this is true or not, but if you were able to include these sources, this would make this answer more reliable and not like it is opinion-based. I do agree with how biologically there are only two genders, but I wished you were able to expand more on how there is a spectrum of identifications for gender. Does this mean it ties to your identity? How does someone know what is on this spectrum, and who's to say when there is or isn't more than 2 genders?

Hi juliannichol, I see where you are coming from but is there anywhere you got this information from? You mention sex, you can only be born male or female, but is there anywhere you got the information backing up your claim as to as you grow as a person, you are able to change your identity? It seems a bit more opinionated if there are no factual evidence supporting the claim you are making

I agree with your definition of gender as spectrum influenced by social, biological, or cultural aspects, but it is untrue that sex is only categorized as male and female (2 genders). Many people are born intersex, meaning they have physical chromosomal, genital, organ, hormone differences that do not fit into the categories of male and female naturally at birth. In fact, there are 30 defined intersex variations, such as Klinefelter syndrome (XXY chromosomes), Ovotested (possesing both ovarian and testicular tissue) and 5-delta reductase deficiency (testosterone metabolism differences often leading to unidentifiable genitals at birth) to name a few. These people are biologically neither of the biological "2 genders" and may or may not identify with the social "2 genders". https://www.healthline.com/health/transgender/types-of-intersex#types-of-variations

I agree with what you have to say, especially how gender is influenced by social, biological, and cultural aspect. But the only thing is I do not see any sources that can make your claim stronger. I like how you are writing from your beliefs but I also want to see evidence to help support you claim and build an argument.

In this article https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/sex-redefined-the-idea-of-2-sexes-is-overly-simplistic1/ I found it explains how sex is based off of a spectrum and not just two fixed categories. Over the years this idea of gender has become more complicated, research shows that sex is influenced by multiple genes, hormones, and other factors.

I agree with your claim that this topic can't be true or false and is subject to opinion when talking about gender identity and not biological sex. However, I think it would be beneficial to add a source arguing your claim further expanding on the spectrum of opinions to facts in this topic.

Agreed that this is a personal opinion as gender and sex are two different things, yet there are no sources provided to further your claim.

I think this is a great answer and spreads better information rather then hate or trying to rage bait. Do you have any sources that further go into this topic?

Hello, I like your claim about opinionating the answer and using culture as a representation of the amount of genders. However, I do believe that there are only two genders and I do believe in facts over feelings. The claim is a very broad claim because it does not mention if the 2 genders are biological or 2 opinion/culture based, regardless based off of biology, there are only 2 genders

I agree with the feedback you provided in response to the topic of there being two genders. I believe that finding a source to support the claim the writer provided would strengthen the argument that there is a difference between gender and identity. Adding a source would add stability and reassurance to the argument, which allows for readers to further believe that the claim is true.

I thought the perspective that it is an opinion peace was a great way to take the answer. With that being said I also think adding a source on how gender is all biological, social and cultural would just add a little more strength and perspective into the answer!

This question is all about perspective and your own thoughts on what is right or wrong in the world. Even though there is no evidence backing it up, i agree with your point

I feel like answering this claiming it’s an opinion is definitely the strongest way to go about it. Biologically speaking there is only two genders but I think having data to back of your theory on this gender spectrum will further more support your stance on this topic.

I agree with your point but there is a lot of personal opinion related to this and people have different views. But the overall message is good that there is a difference from biological sex and your gender identification.

I agree! I think this is based on opinions and your own perception of the world. Although this can be very controversial topic, gender and sex can differ according to some. There is much evidence to support both sides of this arugement but overall this is dependent on personal opinion!

Though I do believe that the overall argument is correct (gender is a spectrum) I'm not sure I concur with the decision that opinion negates the falsehood of the claim. Gender being a spectrum is not only widly accepted by the medical community, (https://policysearch.ama-assn.org/policyfinder/detail/gender%20identity?uri=%2FAMADoc%2Fdirectives.xml-D-295.312.xml, an example proving medical policy is shaped by the fact that gender expression is vast and needs to be taken into account), but the fact is that one's opinion does not provide defense against being incorrect. One's opinion could be that the sky is red, but factual evidence proves this to be incorrect. Dancing around the fact that inherent truth is being obfuscated behind precieved opinion allows false information to propogate and allows cover for those wishing to spread harmful information. Whether one agrees or disagrees with the claim that gender is more complex does not matter. What matters is that gender is a social construct and some wish to exist without the boundaries (which proves the original argument false).

Although I do agree with your answer that gender is something that can be defined as a "biological, social, or cultural" term, I do think that it is worth noting that others may not agree that gender is a spectrum. You could use some sort of third party to back this information up, as you make a claim without providing any kind of evidence or source.

Although your intentions were strong with correcting the statement made above, it is hard to trust your statement because there are no sources to back it up. I agree with what you said about gender being a biological, cultural, and social thing but I would trust you more if there was a credible source backing everything up. I believe that this topic is extremely controversial and by adding personal opinions instead of scientific facts it can make society upset and cause massive debates.

I agree with your answer, gender is a complete social construct and there isn't a correct answer to their claim. Maybe to make this answer more concrete use a source or go into more detail about exact what gender is. Its hard to express personal opinion with this case because the person is looking for scientific analysis

I agree with this, there is a range of sexual orientations. Yet there are more than two genders in terms of medical definition because of intersex organs. Where one's reproductive organs don't match, this can affect ones chromosomes which would make this claim of perception true.

I am going to agree. Biologically speaking, there are respectfully different genders; reproductive organs and physical differences; some can be intersex. While looking into the claim, I came across the World Health Organization's explanation regarding gender as a construct: an idea rather to categorize two or more different ideologies; a theory in terms of definition. (https://www.who.int/health-topics/gender#tab=tab_1) This helped me agree with the claim, although there are different biological genders, people can identify as whatever they want to be—non-binary, a-gender, transgender and the list goes on. It shouldn't matter what other people think of what they choose to be because it's not their lives to be meddled with. Gender is a construct; people can choose which identity they want because they are people not nobody's. The WHO helps this claim in which provides more in depth explanation of what gender is.

i agree with you! I really like your source, Cleveland Clinic is a great source to use for many medical terms as it is a legit medical facility. I wish you could expand more on your response. Though you agree with the claim, explain more why you do besides what you said.

Yes while some people do agree that there are only two genders, what would've been a better response is more explanation about what you think. You should include at least one source that would back up your response. Why do you think some people believe in two genders? Why do people choose their genders?

I agree with your answer since gender is a spectrum, and a large number of people identify as genders other then female and male. On the other hand there are only 2 sexes since they are rooted in the binary classification between sperm and ova.

It is incorrect that there are only 2 sexes, as millions of people have been born with intersex conditions including differences in reproductive organs, hormones, and chromosomes. About 0.018% of the world's population has a chromosomal sex that differs from their phenotypical sex, which is over 100,000 people. While it is exceedingly rare, it does happen and people exist who are medically difficult to classify as either male or female.
