Kansas City Chiefs say they won't be re-signing Travis Kelce's contract.

This claim is not true and satirical. This website has right leaning affiliations and they seem to be targeting Kelce and even Taylor Swift as they are both democrat voters.

The claim that the Kansas City Chiefs won’t be re-signing Travis Kelce's contract is false. The source of this claim is The Dunning-Kruger Times, a satirical news site. On the “About Us” page on its official website, the company refers to itself as a “network of parody, satire, and tomfoolery,” and calls its content “junk news.” This showcases that The Dunning-Kruger Times is not known for its credibility and truthfulness since its main focus is to create satirical content for the public. Additionally, when using Google to search “KC Chiefs not re-signing Travis Kelce,” no articles have headlines or information that supports this claim. There have also been no official statements on this claim made by the NFL, or the Kansas City Chiefs themselves. When plugging in this claim to perplexity.ai, a fact-check conducted by Kaiyah Clarke for the site, “Lead Stories' ', is linked, debunking the claim that the KC Chiefs will not renew Kelce's contract. Both Fox Sports, StyleCaster, and Spotrac, Kelce is currently in a four-year contract with the KC Chiefs.

This appears to be satirical.

The source of this claim originates from the Dunning-Kruger Times, a satirical website named after the Dunning-Kruger Effect. On the website's About Us page, the organization claims to be part of a "network of parody, satire, and tomfoolery" and a subsidiary of America's Last Line of Defense. The about us page also states, importantly, that "everything on this website is fiction." The "writer" for this article is named Flagg Eagleton, a cartoonish stereotype of an American in both name and biography. The website Lead Stories has also checked this claim and found it to be false, originating in satire.

The Dunning-Kruger Times claims to be working against conservatives by exposing them to their own fallacies and seems to have a strong left-leaning bias as a result. This article, though, has three comments from people who seem to believe the events depicted and who seem to agree with this fake decision to release Kelce. I have found no other sources reporting on this claim, which means that its misleading effect may be limited to a smaller audience. Ideally, this website hopes to inform people of their own biases by deceiving them only for later, more reputable news to prove Dunning-Kruger false. While the information is intentionally false, it is created and distributed with intentions of being interpreted as satire, criticism, and entertainment.

You did a good job of exposing the source. I especially like how you included direct quotes from the source's account such as; "network of parody, satire, and tomfoolery." I believe people should do a deeper dive into the sources they are getting their content from.

It's clear you've researched the claim, and including direct quotes furthers your point. However, I think it could have been good to add another claim from a different website to ensure that this is false.

This answer is thorough and shows an eye for detail. By identifying the Dunning-Kruger Times as a satirical website and highlighting its self-description as part of a "network of parody, satire, and tomfoolery," you've found the root of the misinformation. The additional step of recognizing the satirical nature of the writer's name, Flagg Eagleton, further shows the understanding that the content is not to be taken at face value.

It's great that you're fact-checking information before sharing it! It's important to be aware of where news comes from and whether it's meant to be taken seriously or not. In this case, the claim about Travis Kelce's contract with the Kansas City Chiefs not being renewed seems to be from a satirical website called the Dunning-Kruger Times. Satirical websites like this one create fictional stories for entertainment purposes, and they're not meant to be taken as real news.

This is both false and satirical. The source of this claim comes from a satirical article that states the Chiefs Organization has suffered more issues by keeping Travis Kelce both money and security-wise. This is completely false. According to https://www.spotrac.com/ (a website built to display professional athletes' contracts, contract history, and free agent pricing. According to this site and Google, Travis Kelce is currently on a 5-year contract that began in 2021, which means he is still under contract with the Chiefs for next season. His contract isn't negotiable until 2026.

I have not heard of Spottrac, I would have preferred a more established source, but that contract is correct. I think that you could take this a step further and prove that Kelce is not subject to being released by the Chiefs and that they want to keep him on the team, if there is any speculation.

I like your fact check in that you dove deep into what the website and explained the comparison between his contract and what the website said his contract was. I agree too with you in that since his contract was a 5-year deal, it wouldn't be negotiable like you said till later. I like how you also determined that it was satirical and not just true or false.
by Novice (660 points)

Although I am not familiar with Spottrac, I would have preferred a more established and reliable source. Nonetheless, the contract seems to be correct. It might be beneficial to go a step further and substantiate that Kelce is not at risk of being released by the Chiefs. This would help solidify the belief that the team is keen on retaining him, in case there are any speculations or uncertainties.
by Novice (710 points)

Your source of Spottrac seems to be much more reliable than the one used in the original statement. It also is easy to tell that Kelce is a player who loves Kansas City and seems to not want to leave it any time soon, so it just does not make sense for him or the Chiefs to want to part ways.
by Novice (600 points)

Although I've never heard of Spotrac, it seems like a fantastic resource to support your research! Going directly to the source is a useful strategy for avoiding information filters that are biased! Though I agree that it might make your research seem more trustworthy to demonstrate to your reader how you thought about it, I do wish your fact check had given more details on how you realized this claim was satirical.

When reading over the article, I have come to the conclusion that the information is both false as well as satirical. When looking at the article it came from a source called "The Dunning-Kruger-Times." When doing some research on the group, I was able to find that on their website they state "Dunning-Kruger-Times.com is a subsidiary of the "America's Last Line of Defense" network of parody, satire, and tomfoolery" (Dunning-Kruger-Times.com). Meaning that the content that they produce is just for comical purposes. When looking at the other articles produced by this creator it seems as though almost all of their work is satirical.

To make sure that these claims were false, I wanted to check on Travis Kelce's contract. When doing this I used the website Spotrac, which breaks down contracts for players within all Major League Sports. According to Sportrac, Travis Kelce has two years left on his contract. So he wouldn't be able to retire until his contract is completed. According to CBS Sports, Kelce was also quoted saying "I'll see ya'll next year" after hoisting the Lombardi Trophy. This source of information gives more evidence as to why the information stated in the article is false.

Overall, the information stated within the article is a form of satire. We know this based on the information stated within the Dunning-Kruger-Times website. When looking at Kelce's contract for next year as well as examining a direct quote said by Kelce, it seems as though Kelce will return with the Kansas City Chiefs for another year.

This is a false claim. This article came from DunningKrugerTimes.com. On their website they state clearly in the 'about us' sections that they are a "network of parody, satire, and tomfoolery." It is also stated on their website that everything on the website is fiction.

This claim is false, it appears to be satirical content and should not be taken seriously. The article source, Dunning-Kruger-Times, has posted many similarly silly claims and is known for posting outlandish claims as stated in their About Us (https://dunning-kruger-times.com/about-us/) section. Additionally, it is highly unlikely that the NFL team would drop Kelce in the middle of his contract for a relationship that is truthfully bringing more publicity to the team as a whole. Furthermore, Travis Kelce's contract is non-negotiable until 2026 according to https://www.spotrac.com/nfl/kansas-city-chiefs/travis-kelce-12344/?ref=trending-players (A professional Athlete contract database). You are correct in the fact check by saying the claim is false. I think it would be helpful to provide additional sources talking about this issue. This claim is satire and false. The Kansas City Chiefs have not said anything about releasing Kelce and he is under contract for the next two seasons. The Chiefs can not re-sign Kelce right now because he is not a free agent. The source, Dunning-Kruger Times appears to be a satirical website and claimed the Chiefs were releasing Kelce because of Taylor Swift.

Immediately when clicking on the link I do not trust the website. There are articles with claims that are extreme. When going to the 'about us' page it says point blank "Everything on this website is fiction." Therefor I know for a fact that this claim is not real.

I went to the Kansas City Chiefs website and there are no articles or information at all about Travis Kelce not being re-signed. There is a video of Kelce speaking to the public and there was no mention of this claim.

This claim is false.

I think you did a good job digging deeper into the website given by the claim.  The Dunning Kruger Times is a website that is trying to make fun of hard leaning conservatives as it is said that they will believe in everything they hear.  It is also good that you tried searching for other sources that might of backed up the claim that Travis Kelce was not going to re-sign with the chiefs.

This claim is satirical. The website, the Dunning-Kruger-Times, is satirical and untrustworthy. Under the 'about us' section on the Dunning-Kruger-Times website, it states, "Everything on this website is fiction. It is not a lie and it is not fake news because it is not real." Therefore, this claim is satire and tomfoolery made to make readers laugh. According to Sportrac, Kelce is currently under "a 4 year, $57,250,000 contract with the Kansas City Chiefs . . ." This contract is non-negotiable until 2026. Though Kelce was originally under a 5 year contract, after his first season, his contract was adjusted to give him a raise, which is why he is now under a 4 year contract. According to StyleCaster, Kelce signed this contract in 2021. Kelce has received "a guaranteed roster bonus of $7 million, while in 2022, he earned $2 million of his salary as a guarantee." After this research, it is safe to say that Kelce will be playing with the Chiefs for years to come and that the claim by Dunning-Kruger-Times is satirical and false.
